Job description

As the Group Financial Controller, you will play a key role in setting the right reporting and controls framework for the business, with regular exposure to our private equity investor. The Group Financial Controller will be hands-on, supporting the Finance Director in driving financial performance through value-added insight in management reporting and analysis. You will provide robust financial reporting for a complex and multi-faceted group and assist operating businesses with the resolution of specific financial issues, providing clear and pragmatic challenge where appropriate. As Group Financial Controller, you will support the CFO in any acquisitions, integrations, and on the exit strategy in due course. You will be the 'Go To' person for internal and external audit matters and be the main point of contact with the Group's auditors and advisors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement across the business and within finance.
  • Full responsibility for the co-ordination and supervision of management and statutory reporting processes.
  • Adding value through the provision of quality financial and non-financial information and insight.
  • Supporting the Finance Director in driving financial performance and managing risk.
  • Drive financial internal control improvements in the Group.
  • Engage in the M&A process including financial due diligence as required.
  • Provide functional support for M&A activities and integration of acquisitions from a financial reporting and control perspective, including leading fair value assessment.
  • Championing and enhancing the Group reporting systems.
  • Working closely with the CFO and Group Commercial FD on finance projects and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Co-ordinate Group external audits and be the main point of contact for the Group's auditors and advisors.
  • Ownership of the risk register for Finance.
  • Be the joint point of contact for the Insurance Renewal process and ad hoc insurance queries alongside the Legal function.
  • Manage Group internal reporting - monthly actuals and forecast, including writing the CFO Board report and Audit Committee reports.
  • Monitor performance against short term and long-term incentive plans.
  • Provide technical accounting input to tax and treasury planning strategies.
  • Mentor and develop direct reports.

Qualifications:

  • A qualified accountant with an audit background and significant post qualification experience.
  • A background which includes experience as a Group Financial Controller or as a Deputy Group Financial Controller in a PLC listed company or large private group.
  • Highly organised with a strong attention to detail, capable of handling high volumes of variable work, meeting strict reporting deadlines.
  • Strong leadership skills and a flexible attitude with real pace and drive. Approachable and self-motivated.
  • A 'completer-finisher' who is resilient and capable of working effectively within a 'collegiate' environment.
  • Strong team player and team leader with excellent demonstrable team management skills.
  • Understanding of IFRS, with a strong appreciation of technical accounting and financial systems.
  • Effective confident communicator, able to engage and explain performance to finance and business leaders.
  • Excellent commercial mindset with the ability to communicate complex issues and influence people.
  • Exposure to the corporate acquisition process and post-acquisition financial integration.
