Barista/All Rounder

Altitude
Cranleigh
GBP 10,000 - 40,000
Job description

Job Summary:

Barista, All-Rounder

Altitude, and Peaks by Altitude

*Please note this is a permanent position (or two full-time roles on a job-share basis, each working 2 full days per week) and is not suitable for those seeking temporary work, holiday work, or weekend work only.

Altitude is a fun, vibrant lifestyle coffee and cocktail bar that launched on Cranleigh High Street in mid-May. Our sister shop, Peaks by Altitude, is a takeaway ice cream and dessert parlour located directly next door. The successful applicant for this role will be trained to work across both shops, but will primarily be based in Altitude and must come with prior barista experience.

The launch of Altitude and Peaks has been extremely successful, and we've been busier than expected. As such, we are seeking a new member to join our team. Customer-facing experience and a confident, bubbly personality is essential.

Please pay specific attention to the job requirements. We already have a fabulous standby team of casual and holiday workers and are seeking the right person/people to fill this permanent role only.

The successful applicant will be working on a flexible shift basis. Due to this being a hospitality role, shifts will vary from week-to-week and will cover mornings, daytimes, weekends, and occasional evenings. Please only apply if you can commit to working at all of these times. Rotas are published fortnightly.

Your role will be varied but first and foremost, you must be properly barista trained. As well as being able to make coffees, you should know how to juggle multiple orders at once, manage queues of drinks logically, and prioritise long lists of drinks orders - all the while maintaining the exceptional quality coffee we are known for.

As well as making coffees, you will be operating the till, serving drinks, clearing tables, keeping the shop running smoothly during busy times, serving ice creams, and ensuring the shop floor is kept clean and tidy. We work as a team and everyone from the kitchen porter up to the shop owner is expected to help each other out.

Strong communication skills are essential. Both shops get busy! We are a close team, full of ideas and passion, and we are all obsessed with great coffee, great food, and great decor. If you love talking to people, are addicted to making everything instagrammable, and want to be part of something amazing from the start, this may well be the place for you.

Duties:

  • Greet customers in a warm and welcoming manner
  • Provide product information and recommendations
  • Prepare hot and cold coffee-based and alcoholic beverages
  • Process customer orders and payments accurately
  • Handle customer queries and issues with professionalism and empathy
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area (coffee and ice cream get messy quickly!)
  • Ensure displays are fully stocked at all times
  • Make sure the shop floor is always clean and tidy
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient operations
  • Good old-fashioned cleaning! There's lots of it and it's not always glamorous

Essential Requirements:

  • Aged over 18 (due to licensing requirements)
  • A happy, friendly personality
  • Barista experience essential for this role, along with a genuine passion for coffee
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks effectively
  • Evidence of being a team player demonstrable through previous job roles

Preferred, but not essential:

  • Experience making coffee the 'proper' way (weighing, dialing in - not just bean-to-cup or pressing a button)
  • Experience using the Square till system
  • Experience working varying shift patterns
  • Own transport and lives locally
  • Knowledge of food preparation and food safety practices

Benefits:

  • Opportunities for career growth and advancement within the company
  • Free and discounted food on and off shift
  • Friends and family discount
  • Casual dress
  • Company events
  • Company pension
  • Employee discount
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking
  • Store discount

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £11.50+ per hour

Expected Hours: 30-40 per week, on average (negotiable)

Schedule: Shifts vary from week-to-week and may include mornings, evenings, and weekends in accordance with the needs of the business. Altitude opens at 8am daily so your shifts may start as early as 7am. On Friday and Saturday evenings, Altitude stays open until 11pm. We never let anyone working late walk home alone, and we always do our best to make the shifts work best for everyone.

Experience:

  • Barista experience: essential
  • Hospitality experience: preferred
  • Customer service: 1 year (essential)
  • United Kingdom (required)

Work Location: In person
