Small Ferry Engineer (Sound of Harris)

Reports to: Skipper & Technical Superintendent

Contract: Permanent

Rate of pay: £62,398 or £63,898 *depending on certification

Location: Sound of Harris

Shift Pattern: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off

Role Overview
Applications are invited for the position of Small Ferry Engineer to sail on our Sound of Harris route from Leverburgh to Berneray.

Functional Responsibilities/Key Tasks

1. Complying with the requirements of the Company Management System (including the ISM Code).
2. Familiarising yourself with the machinery and equipment and emergency procedures.
3. Ensuring main and auxiliary machinery maintenance is kept up to date.
4. Disposing of waste and oil sludge accumulation in the correct manner and documenting in the Oil Record Book.
5. Reporting all technical problems or breakdowns affecting vessel operation.
6. Ensuring machinery spaces, accommodation spaces, and vehicle deck are correctly lit.
7. Ensuring safety systems function correctly.
8. Maintaining Engine Room and machinery spaces as safe working areas.
9. Communicating with the Technical Superintendent's office for repairs needing outside assistance.
10. Maintaining machinery space bilges in a clean condition and disposing of oil/water correctly.
11. Assisting in the preparation of work lists for overhaul periods.
12. Signing for and taking responsibility for tools supplied to the vessel.
13. Maintaining machinery spaces and voids in a clean and tidy condition.
14. Requisitioning emergency stores/spares.
15. Any other duties required by the Master/Skipper and Technical Superintendent.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential Criteria
• Valid STCW Chief Engineer III/2
