About You

We are looking for someone who is a personable self-starter with the ability to project a positive ‘can do’ professional attitude at all times while maintaining good working relationships. Someone who enjoys working collaboratively across disciplines and can establish excellent working rapport within the team, business, and with clients, with the ability to work under pressure, handle a varied workload and keep to tight deadlines whilst maintaining the highest level of technical excellence.

Primary Objective

Assist Senior Engineers and the wider team in the design process in order to gain a detailed working knowledge of all parts of the industry. Where directed, carry out detailed design and calculations in accordance with industry guides. Assist in preparing specifications, reports, and drawings to the design programme. Oversee project site works snagging and testing as directed by your line manager or group lead.

Responsibilities

In the role of Graduate Mechanical Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Assist Senior Engineers with detailed design tasks and drawing production.
  • Develop an understanding of the different building materials and techniques employed in design.
  • Carry out detailed design calculations and develop a full understanding of computer design packages.
  • Maintain a Continuing Professional Development diary to assist in obtaining appropriate qualifications.
  • Develop an understanding of appropriate Legislation Standards, Building Regulations, and Codes of Practice.
  • Learn and understand design techniques and develop awareness of other design disciplines.
  • Maintain a training log on a daily basis, recording achievements and experience.
  • Attend appropriate and relevant site visits and meetings as applicable to the role or the project.
  • Attend relevant training as required by the practice to achieve Chartered status.
  • Attend and arrange lunchtime CPD’s and Knowledge Sharing sessions.
  • Assist in maintaining QA systems on projects.

Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or equivalent; a Masters is desired but not essential.
  • Good IT knowledge and experience featuring Microsoft Packages.
  • Personable and a ‘can do’ attitude with resource management experience.
  • Clear, concise, professional, and personable communication skills with clients, colleagues, and suppliers.
  • Ability to project a positive and professional attitude at all times.
  • Some knowledge and use of appropriate design analysis software is desirable.
  • Able to establish rapport and good working relationships within the project team and clients.
  • Able to work collaboratively and cooperatively as part of a team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture is a must.
