Job Title: Site Engineer (SCL)

Contract Type: Day Rate, Full-Time (40 hours per week, 8-hour days)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Site Engineer to join our team in Birmingham. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in SCL (Sprayed Concrete Lining) works, site coordination, and a strong understanding of project planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting Out on Site: Perform setting out and final checks using Total Station and Amber system for 2nd lining work and SCL excavation work, ensuring precise control over the excavation profile and shotcrete spray profile.
- Project Planning & Coordination: Facilitate effective coordination with subcontractors to ensure they have the necessary information and materials to complete their tasks on schedule. Act as a liaison between subcontractors, ensuring that tasks are carried out efficiently and without delay.
- Supervision & Management: Supervise and manage day-to-day activities of subcontractors and direct labour on-site, ensuring adherence to the project schedule, specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards. Actively monitor and report on the progress of site activities, addressing any delays or issues in real-time.
- Quality Control & Assurance: Inspect the quality of work performed by subcontractors, ensuring materials meet required standards and are being used correctly. Ensure that all subcontractor and direct labour work aligns with the contract specifications. Coordinate and manage testing and inspection activities with the Quality Team, Client, and Designer in accordance with the approved Inspection Test Plans (ITP). Carry out shotcrete-related tests to support the excavation cycle and ensure quality. Install and maintain maturity sensors for 2nd lining works to ensure consistent quality control.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental Management: Ensure that subcontractor activities comply with health and safety policies, as well as relevant legal requirements. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented promptly. Lead safety briefings for the team based on approved RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and TBS (Task Briefing Sheets). Provide induction training to newcomers or visitors, ensuring they are familiar with safety procedures and site rules.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records of daily activities, including materials used, hours worked, and any issues encountered. Communicate any issues, delays, or concerns related to SCL work to higher management. Update and provide necessary safety-related documents such as RAMS, TBS, permits, and other necessary documentation for the project.
Requirements:
Proven experience in SCL (Sprayed Concrete Lining) and site engineering.
Strong experience with Total Station and Amber system for setting out.
Excellent knowledge of project planning, subcontractor management, and coordination.
Demonstrated ability to monitor and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to manage site activities and resolve issues efficiently.
Experience in performing site inspections, quality control, and testing.
