Are you an experienced Speech & Language Therapist with a passion for supporting children and young people with complex needs?

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Band 7 Speech & Language Therapist to join our team at HCRG Care Group.

In this role, you will provide highly specialist assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based interventions, working collaboratively with education professionals, parents, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to meet the needs of children with Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs).

You’ll play a vital role in delivering a high standard of child-centred care, ensuring the best outcomes for children and young people in line with best practice and commissioning priorities.

Main Responsibility

Planning and Organisational Duties:

1. Day-to-day line management of a team of therapy professionals.
2. Independently manage a caseload of children, including complex cases, primarily in educational settings.
3. Collaborate with parents, carers, education colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams to address children’s speech, language, and communication needs as part of their EHCP provision.
4. Contribute to EHCP processes, including reviews, and provide updates to schools, families, and the Service Manager.
5. Support service development, meet performance targets, and collaborate with other agencies to achieve local and national objectives.
6. Deliver training programs for professionals, carers, and team members, and participate in recruitment and selection processes.

Patient Care Responsibilities:

1. Conduct assessments, formulate therapy plans, and evaluate outcomes in collaboration with families and professionals.
2. Provide specialist advice and reports to support EHCPs, annual reviews, and tribunal processes.
3. Attend multiagency meetings and safeguarding conferences, sharing sensitive information effectively.
4. Adapt clinical practice to meet individual and cultural needs, seeking advice and supervision when necessary.

Operational Delivery:

1. Provide advice and training to education professionals and parents on supporting children with speech, language, and communication needs.
2. Work directly with children and indirectly through upskilling parents and education staff to implement strategies.
3. Deliver therapy flexibly across various settings, including schools, homes, and Family Hubs, using virtual methods where appropriate.
4. Maintain strong communication links with education and health services to ensure coordinated care.
5. Manage risks, comply with safeguarding policies, and contribute to clinical governance and audits.
6. Engage in continuous professional development and complete mandatory training.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

1. Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent (Post Graduate Diploma or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy leading to registration with HCPC)
2. Health and Care Professions Council Licence to Practice (HCPC)
3. Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
4. Minimum of 4 years post qualification experience
5. Member of relevant Clinical Excellence Network
6. Evidence of relevant post graduate training, internal or external

Desirable

1. Knowledge /training in complex needs/learning difficulties
2. Knowledge/training in signing (e.g. Makaton, BSL) and AAC
3. Knowledge/training in ASD strategies and interventions e.g. PECS, SCERT
4. Demonstrable experience of working in the NHS
