Job Description

THE ROLE

The Manufacturing Engineer reports directly to the head of engineering and is supervised by the Lead Manufacturing Engineer. They support the definition and industrialization of new product introduction manufacturing processes and provide support to production and engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide design for manufacture support during design and development.
  • Support process development.
  • Support process implementation.
  • Provide support to junior engineers.
  • Contribute to equipment specifications.
  • Write up specifications for new equipment, tender for and install new equipment, including training personnel.
  • Support continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with Production to develop practices, routines, and solutions to help improve productivity and product quality.
  • Support engineering change activities.
  • Set up CNC centres and saws for new products; understand the concept of using different materials and tooling for specific situations.
  • Troubleshoot CNC operations using RCA and incorporating a robust solution.
  • Set up new production lines using existing and new equipment ensuring compliance with project and production expectations.
  • Optimize facility layouts, production lines, machine operations, and network performance using CI techniques.

ATTRIBUTES/COMPETENCIES

Essential

  • Degree in Manufacturing Engineering/Mechanical Engineering, HND, HNC or similar.
  • Conversant in the use of CAD for data interrogation.
  • Strong Excel, Word, and PPT skills.
  • GD&T knowledge.
  • Working experience of CNC machines up to 5 axis.
  • Problem-solving skills, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • NC Programming experience.
  • FMEA knowledge.
  • Process design experience.
  • Production trials experience.
  • Equipment specification knowledge.
  • Design for manufacture expertise.
  • Cost/commercial awareness.
  • Packaging knowledge.
  • Good communication/presentation skills for effective liaison and teamwork.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work on several tasks or projects concurrently.

  • Experience within fenestration.
  • Experience with products for the home or construction industry.
  • Experience in high volume manufacture.
  • Experience with automation.
  • Experience in Lean and 6 Sigma (Green belt ideal).
