Job Title: Medicine Counter Assistant

Permanent / Contract: Permanent

Salary range: £26500 per annum (dependent on experience)

Role specific benefits: Flexible shift work

Full time/part time: Full-Time, 37.50 hours per week


The Cromwell Hospital
The hospital has 180 beds and 4 suites, 6 theatres, medical and surgical wards, Chemotherapy Day Unit, level 2 and 3 full adult intensive care facilities, paediatrics (in/outpatients), investigative and diagnostic services, physiotherapy, a dedicated day surgery unit, primary care service, and onsite pharmacy.

The pharmacy service is open on Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 8pm and Saturday from 9:00am to 2:30pm. Applicants will contribute to our excellent evening service Monday to Friday 5:30pm – 8:00pm and Saturday 9am to 2:30pm.

You’ll help us make health happen by (amongst other duties):

  • You’ll act as the service ambassador and provide an exceptional non-judgemental outpatient pharmacy counter service to all patients, staff and health care professionals.
  • You’ll manage and coordinate the front counter service, identifying customer needs and offering appropriate advice on over-the-counter medicines.
  • As a front-line member of the team you will ensure all customers are well received and responded to appropriately. You’ll register patients, take payments and provide an accurate cashier function, managing a daily float in line with current policy and procedures, and collect data for audit purposes.

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Excellent Customer Service focus
  • Medicine Counter Assistant qualification (desirable)
  • Experience of retail pharmacy or hospital pharmacy (essential)
  • Computer literate.
  • Experience in service delivery in area of Pharmacy (essential)
