Skilled Aircraft Fitters – Opportunities for Former R.A.F. Mechanics

Role Overview
Are you an ex-R.A.F. aircraft mechanic looking to transfer your military experience into a civilian aerospace environment? We’re working with a leading UK aerospace manufacturer with a proud history in aircraft production and innovation. They are currently seeking Skilled Aircraft Fitters to join their team at a well-established site in Filton, supporting the build and maintenance of both commercial and military aircraft platforms. This is an excellent opportunity to transition your skills from military service into a structured and forward-thinking civilian role.

Responsibilities

  1. Interpret engineering instructions and technical aircraft drawings
  2. Carry out fitting and assembly tasks to precise industry standards
  3. Use of power tools for drilling, shimming, sealing, and other production operations
  4. Complete 1st party certification following successful completion of required training
  5. Work in confined spaces where required (e.g., fuel tanks or access panels)

Background

  1. Solid aircraft systems/mechanical experience gained in a military context (e.g., RAF)
  2. Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team
  3. Commitment to safety and continuous improvement
  4. Must hold NVQ L2 + L3 or equivalent in engineering
  5. Must have completed an apprenticeship within an engineering discipline i.e: sheet metal worker, aircraft or maintenance technician, tool maker, fitter/turner

Shift Pattern
Monday to Thursday, 6:30am to 3:45pm

Note: This is a contract position due to finish 05-05-2026
