Principal Planning Officer

Overview of the role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Planning Officer with expertise in Development Management to take the lead on major and complex planning applications. In this role, you will oversee and guide a team of Planning Officers and apprentices, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality planning decisions.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Assess and Recommend: Evaluate complex and contentious planning applications against regulations and local policies to ensure compliance.
• Expert Representation: Provide written statements, proofs of evidence, and act as an expert witness at public examinations, hearings, and appeals.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Address complex inquiries from the public, officials, applicants, and stakeholders, offering clear and timely advice while attending public meetings as needed.
• Specialist Planning Guidance: Offer expert advice on development applications, ensuring alignment with planning policies and promoting sustainable growth.
• Defend Planning Decisions: Represent decisions in appeals and inquiries, providing expert testimony and supporting documentation.
