Maintenance Assistant:

At DHU, we are looking for a dedicated Maintenance Assistant to join our dynamic Estates Team. Based at Derby, you will take responsibility for both reactive and planned routine maintenance across DHU's property portfolio. You'll work collaboratively with stakeholders and contractors to ensure the delivery of a high-quality, efficient service that supports all areas of our business.

Competitive salary: £24,071- £25,675 (Band 3)


Generous annual leave entitlement: Standard 25 days + 8 bank holidays, increasing with service up to 33 days + 8 bank holidays. Pro Rata/ Per Annum

What your typical day looks like:

  1. Maintain DHU's premises and assets, including minor building repairs, redecoration, and plumbing.
  2. Conduct planned maintenance checks (fire alarms, generators, water temperatures) and carry out remedial works.
  3. Assist with stock control, furniture/equipment moves, and general portering.
  4. Perform grounds and garden maintenance, including litter picking and tool upkeep.
  5. Manage contractors, support team members, and adapt to organisational needs.

To be a successful Maintenance Assistant, you will need:

  1. Relevant qualifications (NVQ, City & Guilds) and experience in building maintenance.
  2. Full clean UK driving license and knowledge of health & safety responsibilities.
  3. Ability to prioritise tasks, use initiative, and work flexibly.
  4. Physically capable of lifting heavy objects, working at heights, and using tools/machinery.
  5. Willingness to adapt and meet operational requirements.
