Description

The ZBD app lets users jump into a universe of games and apps, connect with friends and earn Bitcoin while having fun. ZBD also empowers developers to embed bitcoin payments into video games and applications, such as podcasting and music streaming. ZBD’s unique proposition enables these partner developers to better monetize their games and apps by allowing users to receive micro-rewards for actions taken in the game or app. ZBD provides this functionality by leveraging Bitcoin and the Lightning Network protocol.

As ZBD evolves in 2025 and beyond, expanding our payments functionality will be a crucial cornerstone of success. We’re looking for a passionate payment operations leader with experience taking a payment operations function from 0 to 1 and who understands excellence in the space—from customer funds safeguarding and reconciliation to fraud prevention and payment orchestration. This will be both a highly cross-functional and visible role within the business as you will collaborate heavily with internal and external stakeholders to establish a best-in-class function.

The business comprises almost 60 employees - across development, marketing, compliance, operations, technology, customer success, and customer support - from Los Angeles to New York, London, Amsterdam, and São Paulo.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with product and ZBD leadership to shape the payments product roadmap and strategy to ensure payment operations is considered - covering all angles including automation, regulatory compliance, and user experience.
  • Analyze and document end-to-end payment flows, vendor requirements, risks, and risk mitigation strategies - ensuring the wider business and key stakeholders understand key processes and risks.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including outreach, communication, and negotiations, while evaluating build versus buy decisions when appropriate.
  • Work with Finance, Customer Support, Business Intelligence, Product and Engineering as well as other teams to ensure proper implementation of processes and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive audit processes and reporting to ensure client funds safeguarding, correct funds movement, and billing operations.
  • Evaluate payment processing costs and help develop pricing strategies to maximize revenue potential for ZBD while maintaining competitive client-facing pricing.
  • Collaborate with the product team to improve and automate payment operations, reducing costs, minimizing risks, and enhancing customer experience.
  • Create and implement standardized processes for handling payment disputes and routing errors.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • 10+ years of payments industry experience, including at least 3 years in leadership roles building high-performing teams and scalable processes.
  • Proven ability to break down complex systems and challenges into clear, actionable insights and work with product teams to implement solutions and automation.
  • Experience scaling payments operations from scratch in a startup environment.
  • Experience operating in and a deep understanding of payments within both the US and EU markets.
  • Outstanding collaboration and negotiation skills, with a track record of managing high-value partnerships.
  • Knowledge or at least an interest to learn about Bitcoin and the Lightning Network.
