Job description

An opportunity has arisen for an Automotive CNC Engineer.

This is an opportunity for a long term career working within a family run business with supportive people who are proud to work for a longstanding British engineering company. We are a family run business and a close knit team. We have traditional values and we work in a traditional engineering environment.

We are among the market leaders in the production of custom brake kits and all the parts for the braking system for all manner of cars (Road Cars, Classic Cars, Race Cars, and Kit Cars) from one-off specials to low volume production.

Previous specific experience is not essential as this is a small, specialised industry with not many companies like us. However, previous relatable experience and an interest in automotive engineering will be beneficial. We are always on the lookout for skilled Engineers, so please do apply if you are experienced and you may be able to fast track.

Extensive on-the-job training will be provided as the successful candidate will be shadowing one of our experienced team members.

If you are looking for an opportunity to grow your skills in a supportive environment, we encourage you to apply for this position today!

What we are offering is rare in this ever-changing and uncertain job market. We will be offering full shadowing and 1:1 induction; you won't be just another number here, you will be a valued member of the team from day one.

We have a few different routes to take, initially being shown an overview of the company with a view to settling into one of our varied specialist departments. This will all be discussed at the interview.

Main Responsibilities

The main aspects of the engineering role are listed below, but this is not an exhaustive list:

  • Sawing: learn to use the saw safely, speak with the different people to see what is required, then saw it & deliver it.
  • Deliveries: work with dispatch to bring in metal deliveries, check sizes are correct, mark, and put away.
  • Keep the sawing area clean, neat & tidy.
  • Checking the main workshop area is clean and safe.
  • Clean the swarf from the machines.
  • Empty the swarf bins into the 'tipper.'
  • Monitor & maintain the coolant level in all the machines.
  • Monitor & maintain the 'Slideway lube' level in all the machines.
  • Sweep & tidy the workshop, various different departments.
  • Finishing/De-Burring: virtually all the parts coming off the machines need minor finishing operations, manually de-bur sharp edges, and manually countersink holes with sharp edges.
  • Machine loading/tending: some jobs are more complicated than others, but all jobs need loading & unloading in a safe & timely manner.
  • Starting with simpler jobs, help out in various sections with basic load/unload/QC check jobs.
  • You may also be shown anodising and powder coating as part of the induction rotation and spending time learning all aspects of the Hi Spec automotive engineering production line.

Depending on your level of experience, we are hoping this will then work towards settling into one department after a period of time.

Each department can be regarded as a cell, or a group of machines:

  • You would be dedicated to a particular department.
  • Learn all the aspects of each machine, tools, jigs & fixtures in that cell.
  • Learn all the jobs that go through the cell, working alongside a more experienced member of staff.

This would then lead to mastering all details of the cell/department and generally lifting the standard of the department as everyone works more collaboratively together.

The role will require you to work on various processes including Milling, Drilling, Grinding & Machining Centres and/or Turning machines. Almost all are CNC, computer-controlled machines.

We take pride in developing talent from/in the local community, so we really want people who live within a 30-minute commute to & from Dartford.
