Your Role - Senior Building Surveyor

You’ll support a wide range of clients and colleagues across a great variety of diverse projects, working on a hybrid basis from our Bristol office. Autonomously lead and manage projects, working collaboratively with a varied team of construction professionals. Aid in the development of Assistant Building Surveyors, and benefit from the support of an experienced team – if you have an interest in a specialism, we would be pleased to support your ongoing development!

What does the role involve?

  • Managing and leading on projects of varied size and complexity across a diverse client base
  • Performing the role of lead consultant on multi-disciplinary projects including the management of in-house teams and external consultants
  • Working through the RIBA Plan of works from inception to completion for projects
  • Meeting the client at kick off meetings to agree or confirm the brief
  • Preparation and coordination of feasibility studies including agreeing project programmes
  • Act as lead designer including interpreting drawings and designs produced by others
  • Advise upon the technical detail and analyse the design in accordance with the technical brief, statutory requirements, and instructions of the client
  • Preparation of project designs and specifications including pre tender estimates
  • Collation of tender documentation, administering tender portals, undertaking tender analysis and producing reports
  • Undertaking day to day duties of either the Contractor Administrator or Employers Agent throughout the project up to and including end of defects
  • Lead on and undertake surveys for the purpose of acquisition, technical due diligence, PPM schedules, or other bespoke reports including all necessary liaison and co-ordination with other specialists
  • Dealing with Party Wall and other neighbourly matters
  • Providing advice on dilapidations and other landlord and tenant matters on occasion and discharging instructions as appropriate
  • Understanding and advising on the applications of statutory approvals, ensuring project compliance and the management of the application and consent process
  • Taking responsibility for delivery of projects on time and budget including working within the parameter of the fee targets and providing regular reports to line managers
Requirements

What skills might you need?

  • Member of the RICS or working towards chartered status; we can support you in gaining chartership
  • Experience working as a Building Surveyor within the construction industry
  • Client facing with some experience of managing assistants or willingness to develop the skillset
  • Excellent experience based technical/project knowledge
  • Proficient report writing & communication skills
  • Ability to manage fees and assist with fee bids, generating new work through the management of client relations
  • Working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety
