Applications are invited from suitably qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with strong post HCPC registration experience in a diagnostic laboratory who have completed the specialist portfolio in Microbiology. However, consideration may be given to candidates newly HCPC registered with strong Microbiology experience.
The laboratory operates a seven day rota and qualified Biomedical Scientists will be expected to participate in the shift system to contribute towards the continuity of care for patients in the Trust hospitals. The laboratory is covered for 24 hours and staff will be expected to be part of that cover.
The successful applicant will be part of a friendly team working in the various sections of this busy Microbiology/Serology Department based at Stoke Mandeville providing a service for the hospitals in the Trust and surrounding community. You will need to be motivated, highly reliable, trustworthy and able to work to tight deadlines and under extreme pressure. The laboratory processes more than 400,000 specimens a year and is equipped with Mast Urisystem, Serosep EntericBio, BD Bactec and MGIT, Bruker MALDI ToF, Biomerieux FilmArray, Luminex Aries, BD Kiestra, BD Phoenix, BD Max, QuantStudio 5 and Thermo Kingfisher.
Serology department is equipped with the Cobas 4800, Abbott Architect, Liaison XI and Geenius.
You will play a key role in helping to deliver and develop our comprehensive, clinical microbiology/serology service. With much new technology throughout the department, you will rotate throughout and learn all aspects of the diagnostic microbiology departments. You will help to meet quality standards necessary for accreditation, and ensure that protocols are followed and documentation maintained in a way that maintains Quality, Health, Safety and Security for individuals, the Department and the Trust.
You will be expected to actively participate in the training and development of technical, medical and support staff as well as be proactive in your own development and that of the service.
