Job description

At Plume, our purpose is to help in-house lawyers succeed. As an alternative legal services provider, we lighten their legal load by providing responsive and reliable support, delivering business-ready advice that is actionable and pragmatic. We also run the Watering Hole, a community for in-house lawyers where they can learn, link up and let off steam!

Our close-knit, innovative team, which we affectionately call our “flock,” works remotely across the UK, combining flexibility with a supportive and collaborative environment.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel specialising in Commercial, Data Protection and Technology law.

You will work on a subscription basis, acting as an extension of our clients’ legal teams or as their sole legal counsel. We pride ourselves on delivering responsive and reliable support.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a broad range of complex commercial contracts, including contracts for IT/tech solutions, IP licensing and exploitation, outsourcing agreements (including critical outsourcing in the context of financial services), software licensing agreements and master services agreements.
  2. Advising on data protection compliance and reviewing data protection policies and processing agreements.
  3. Providing general advice to our clients on a wide range of business-related matters, including new product launches, legal ops and procurement.
  4. Providing training to clients (legal teams and the wider client business) on legal and operational matters.

Who You Are

You are a UK-qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with substantial experience across both in-house and private practice settings. You excel in commercial, technology, and data protection-related matters and possess the following attributes:

  1. Autonomous and efficient, with strong collaboration skills.
  2. Excellent technical drafting abilities.
  3. A track record of exceeding client and colleague expectations.
  4. Proven experience in negotiating contracts.
  5. Capable of providing legal advice within a broader commercial context, understanding clients’ strategic business needs and objectives.
  6. Skilled in building strong relationships with colleagues and clients.
  7. Able to deliver decisive, accurate, risk-based and jargon-free legal advice.
  8. Thrives in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  9. Eager to push boundaries, innovate industries, and continuously challenge yourself and others.

Experience and Qualifications

  1. Minimum of 8 years PQE, although candidates with slightly less experience who meet the other criteria are encouraged to apply.
  2. Experience working across both in-house and private practice settings.

Why Join Plume?

  1. Remote Working: Work from anywhere in the UK.
  2. Competitive Salary & Benefits: Attractive compensation package supporting your health and well-being.
  3. Flexible Working: Unlimited annual leave and the flexibility to control your schedule. As long as our clients are happy, we're happy!
  4. Supportive Environment: Be part of a team that goes out of its way to support each other. Every. Single. Day.

We believe that resourcing our team with the right blend of experience and enthusiasm is crucial. If you are passionate about redefining legal services and think you fit the bill, we’d love to hear from you.
