The Highways Development Control (HDC) team provides the Highway Authority's response to all development proposals in Manchester as part of the Planning Process, ranging from a single property to major development proposals such as the Co-op Arena or the recently approved Central Retail Park Office Campus development. The HDC team is central to protecting and maintaining highway interests, assessing development proposals, identifying highway alterations, and liaising with developers throughout the planning, development, and construction process.
This vacancy is for the role of Highways Development Control Engineer - you will provide specialist expertise to ensure that all developments are safe, accessible, and work to mitigate against any impact on the highway network and its users.
The role covers a variety of activities which include:
You will be a highly motivated and versatile individual with great analytical skills and the drive to make a significant contribution to our team. You will need significant experience of working within a Highways environment - with a background in Development Control including the review of/input into planning submissions either as a technical assessor or Transport & Highways Consultant/Planner. You will need to have good computer skills along with experience of related software and strong knowledge of the relevant codes of practice, guidance documents, and planning policy.
We are looking for individuals who also hold a minimum of HNC / Degree in a relevant Planning / Highways Engineering discipline. Chartered/Incorporated Engineer or Membership of a relevant Institution would be advantageous.
