The James Brown Fellowship in Head & Neck Surgery and Reconstruction

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint 2 full time Head and neck fellows in Head and neck oncology with reconstruction from August 2025 for a 12 Month fixed term contract.

The Regional Maxillofacial Unit provides a comprehensive service in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to the residents of South Sefton and Liverpool and more broadly to Merseyside and Cheshire as a whole.

The Regional Unit operates a 'hub and spoke' arrangement with other hospitals in the region. Most major surgery is carried out centrally at the hub (Aintree) and numerous outpatient and minor surgery arrangements peripherally in the spoke hospitals.

The successful candidate will also participate in the Specialty Trainee MFU 1:8 on-call from home rota.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be exposed to all facets of head & neck surgery and reconstruction, with a focus on the oral cavity and midface.

The fellow will be expected to sustain daily involvement in all elements of patient care; ward rounds, outpatient clinics, theatre, and teaching/training for other surgical team members. The education and training of Oral & Maxillofacial registrars and more junior trainees will be an important component of the Fellowship, in preparation for assuming a future Consultant position (including supervision of clinical audit projects).

Person Specification

Qualifications/training

  • Primary dental qualification registerable with GDC AND Primary medical qualification registerable with GMC
  • FDSRCS or equivalent
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • FRCS OFMS
  • Peri/post CCT
  • Completed at least ST 6 in OFMS

Research/ publications

  • Demonstrate interest in clinical research
  • Previous publications and presentations
