Due to a recent internal promotion, the Town of Falmouth is seeking an enthusiastic and creative professional to serve as our Managing Librarian of Branch Services and lead this division of the Falmouth Public Library (FPL). The Managing Librarian of Branch Services is a senior-level, highly responsible position that manages the operations and dedicated staff of the East Falmouth and North Falmouth Branches of FPL. This is a full-time position that works 37.5 hours per week, including some Saturday and evening hours, with some schedule flexibility.
Under the administrative direction of the Library Director, the Managing Librarian of Branch Services is responsible for the management and operation of the East Falmouth and North Falmouth branches of the FPL. Essential functions include, but are not limited to training, scheduling, and evaluating a staff of four regular part-time employees; short and long-term planning; development and implementation of a wide range of programming; and the development of the branch library collections.

The successful applicant also has excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and customer service skills. This position requires a self-starter who can work independently with a high level of discretion; however, this position is part of the FPL Managing Librarian team that meets weekly with the Library Director and Assistant Director for support and collaborative decision-making regarding Library-wide goals, initiatives, and operations.
Master’s degree in library science from an American Library Association-accredited graduate school and five (5) years of public library experience, including supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
The successful candidate has intensive knowledge of the principles and practices of library work and supports the Library’s role in providing free and equal access to ideas, information, resources, and services. The ideal applicant has strong communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to foster a staff culture of mutual respect and support. Applicants must also have the ability to effectively work and interact with individuals and groups of various abilities, cultures, backgrounds, and identities.

Step 1 – Step 3, commensurate with qualifications and experience, with room to advance along the seven-step pay scale.
