Job Description
We're recruiting for a Tax Manager to support Insurance and Investments working within Group Tax to support the Head of Insurance & Investments Tax. Primary responsibilities include supporting in the provision of advice on insurance and investment tax matters, including PRT deals, reinsurances, investment structuring and M&A. What you'll be doing:
- Supporting the Head of Insurance & Investments Tax as a tax business partner on insurance tax matters, including developing knowledge of and advising on PRT and reinsurance deals, providing practical tax support to corporate development and investment teams in the Institutional Retirement business.
- Developing and maintaining knowledge of the UK corporation tax regime as it applies to life insurance companies and support the Head of Insurance & Investments Tax on life tax matters.
- Developing and maintaining knowledge of the relevant tax aspects of the SII regime.
- Supporting the Head of Insurance & Investments Tax on M&A and investment structuring for the Institutional Retirement business, including developing knowledge of and advising on UK and international investment structuring, bearing in mind the Group's regulatory requirements.
- Supporting the Head of Insurance & Investments Tax in delivery of advice to the Corporate Investments Unit, including investment structuring and eventual exit planning.
- Responsible for the tax compliance and reporting for a portfolio of UK investments.
- Building relationships with key contacts in the Institutional Retirement, Retail and Corporate Investments divisions to ensure Group Tax are embedded appropriately into commercial activity.
- Monitoring changes in UK tax legislation, and in particular as relating to life insurance taxation. Support the Head of Insurance & Investments Tax in preparing representations and responses to consultations on prospective changes on behalf of L&G and communicating impacts to stakeholders.
QualificationsWho we're looking for:
- Knowledge of UK Taxes Acts including corporation tax, VAT and stamp duty to the extent that they apply to the companies in the group for which tax responsibility held. Develop and maintain knowledge of the UK corporation tax regime as it applies to life insurance companies.
- Knowledge of the tax aspects of UK GAAP and IFRS.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the relevant tax aspects of the SII regime.
- Understanding of the corporate tax implications of cross border working within an international business, including residence and PE risk and mitigation strategies.
- Builds and develops strong relationships with staff, peers and other contacts within the business.
- Experience of providing tax advice and be able to explain tax technical issues in a clear and concise way to non-tax experts.
- Prepared to listen to others and work to understand their viewpoint.
- Ability to create and deliver clear and concise written or verbal reports.
