PA for a young person P/T maternity cover saltburn-by-the-sea £12.39/hr - Saltburn-by-the-Sea - TS12

The role is for a Personal Assistant/ Support Worker for a vulnerable young female with additional needs in the Skelton area. The role will require you to provide social assistance. You will be part of a team that are providing 24 hour care on a 2 to 1 basis.
Age requirement 25+ or 2 years driving experience.
Maternity cover until end of November; always overtime hours available.
12hr shifts 9-9.
Days sleeps wakes.
Condition/Diagnosis:
Autism, learning difficulties & severely challenging behaviour, focal seizures.
Abilities:
Fully mobile, independent needs assistance with some personal care.
Disabilities:
She has difficulties with social interaction and controlling her behaviour and mood.
She currently requires 2:1 assistance, especially when out in the community – support workers must be known to her and need to know how to react to her cues.

MAIN DUTIES
Duties to include:
  1. Help with personal care; hair washing, independence is promoted in all areas.
  2. Help to prepare food at meal times.
  3. Help keep her home clean and tidy.
  4. To interact with her and encourage her to maintain her independence and use of good manners in all that she does.
  5. Promote a close and healthy relationship to ensure she feels safe.
  6. Provide companionship / friendship in a way that will encourage her to want to spend time with you.
  7. Provide a duty of care that is similar to that of an absent parent e.g. enquire after her wellbeing, looking out for any anxiety, assess at what point to step in to help with social interaction.
  8. Support and observe her closely when out socially (e.g. in cafes, shops, day trips).
  9. Provide one or two stimulating activities, some involving life skill improvement, to make her unstructured time pass as pleasantly and enjoyably as possible.
  10. Assist her to maintain normal personal care and hygiene standards.
  11. Assist with her with the development of her social skills and understanding of appropriateness and personal space. Pick up on her cues, and attempt to avoid the escalation of frustration that could lead to loss of control.
  12. Help her to recognise her cues and work with her to develop coping strategies.
  13. Communicate issues and successes to her family regularly.
TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
To attend and participate in any training as required by the family.
To identify and alert the family to training or support needs as required.

Understand your statutory duty to the family regarding confidentiality. Disclosure of personal or confidential information to any unauthorised person or persons outside the family will render employees subject to disciplinary action, which may result in dismissal.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Promote a consistent and positive image of the family in a professional manner at all times.
Take responsibility for maintaining and improving the knowledge and skills required for the role.
Develop an understanding of 'J's general care needs and identify problem areas.

Understand your statutory duty to observe general safeguarding guidelines and report anything you are concerned about to the relevant authorities. Identify and alert the family to training or support needs with regard to safeguarding.

A First Aid qualification.
