About the Black British Book Festival
The Black British Book Festival is Europe’s largest celebration of Black literature, showcasing the incredible contributions of Black authors, illustrators, and storytellers. Since its inception in 2021, the festival has grown into a dynamic platform for cultural exchange, creativity, and empowerment. We are seeking a motivated and skilled Festival Producer to join our team and help deliver impactful events and programmes that inspire audiences across the UK.
Role Overview
As the Festival Producer, you will play a key role in the planning, coordination, and execution of the Black British Book Festival’s events and initiatives. Working remotely for three days a week, you will collaborate with our team, partners, and stakeholders to ensure the festival runs smoothly and achieves its mission. The main office is based in Birmingham, and you must be able to travel to Birmingham for in-person meetings and attend events across the UK as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Management:
- Develop and oversee project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
- Coordinate with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met.
- Monitor progress, troubleshoot issues, and provide regular updates to the festival director.
- Event Production:
- Plan and deliver engaging events, workshops, and activities aligned with the festival’s goals.
- Manage logistics, including venue bookings, supplier contracts, and schedules.
- Ensure events are executed to a high standard, maintaining a focus on inclusivity and accessibility.
- Facilitation:
- Lead meetings and workshops with stakeholders, partners, and participants.
- Support community engagement and relationship-building efforts.
- Act as a point of contact during events, ensuring smooth communication between all parties.
- Administrative Support:
- Maintain accurate project records, contracts, and correspondence.
- Prepare and distribute reports, proposals, and post-event evaluations.
Minimum Requirements:
- Proven experience in project management, event production, or facilitation, preferably within the arts, culture, or publishing sectors.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using digital tools for remote work, including project management software and virtual collaboration platforms.
- A passion for Black literature, arts, and culture is essential.
Requirements:
- Ability to work remotely with reliable access to the internet.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel to Birmingham for in-person meetings and to events across the UK as required.
- Availability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events.
