Site: Unit 3 & 4 Talisman Business Centre, Bicester, Oxon, OX26 6HR

Responsible to: Night Shift Team Leaders

Basic Hours: Monday to Thursday 19:00 – 05:30

Salary: Setter/Operators £33k to £42k & Programmers £42k to £58k

(Includes a 30% night shift uplift on base salary)

Role Overview

We are looking for skilled CNC Milling Setter Operators and Programmers to join our team. These roles involve setting up, programming (where applicable), and operating CNC milling machines to manufacture high-quality precision components. The ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of machining principles, be confident in reading technical drawings, and have experience working with a variety of materials. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a highly skilled team, with access to the latest machining technology and a supportive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Machine Setup & Operation
    1. Set up and operate CNC milling machines to produce precision components.
    2. Select and install appropriate tooling, work holding, and cutting parameters to ensure optimal machining performance.
    3. Load and unload materials, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  2. Programming (for Programmer Roles)
    1. Create and edit CNC programs using Heidenhain and FANUC controls.
    2. Optimise cutting paths, feeds, and speeds to improve efficiency and tool life.
    3. Ensure all programs meet required tolerances and specifications.
  3. Quality Control & Compliance
    1. Interpret technical drawings and ensure all work meets required specifications.
    2. Conduct first-off and in-process inspections using appropriate measuring equipment.
    3. Work closely with the Quality department to address any non-conformances.
    4. Maintain strict adherence to ISO 9001 quality standards.
  4. Efficiency & Problem Solving
    1. Identify and implement improvements in machining processes to reduce cycle times and increase efficiency.
    2. Troubleshoot and resolve machining or tooling issues as they arise.
    3. Work proactively to minimise downtime and maximise productivity.
  5. Health, Safety & Workplace Organisation
    1. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
    2. Comply with all health and safety regulations, including proper use of PPE and machine safety protocols.
    3. Ensure machines are well-maintained and serviced as required.

Key Targets & Objectives

  1. Ensure production schedules are met with minimal delays.
  2. Maintain high-quality standards, reducing scrap and rework rates.
  3. Increase machine utilisation and reduce downtime through process improvements.
  4. Ensure all team members are trained and competent in CNC milling operations.
  5. Promote a positive and proactive team culture focused on quality and efficiency.

Review & Performance Assessment

  1. Performance will be reviewed quarterly against agreed KPIs.
  2. Feedback sessions will focus on efficiency, quality, and problem-solving capabilities.
  3. Areas requiring development will be addressed through structured training and support.
  4. Opportunities for progression and further training will be provided based on performance and business needs.

Qualifications

  1. Strong mechanical knowledge and understanding of machining processes
  2. Proficiency in CNC milling and programming
  3. Experience with fabrication and using SolidWorks
  4. Competence in CAD software
  5. Ability to handle materials and utilise hand tools effectively
  6. Basic math skills for precise measurements and calculations
