Job description

We are currently seeking an experienced Warehouse Team Leader to join a well-established, family-run SME based in Cullompton. The Warehouse Team Leader is the main point of contact for the warehouse, working effectively with other business areas. You will be responsible for daily teamwork coordination to ensure all daily, weekly, and monthly warehouse requirements are met, as well as leading the team to implement change and carry out warehouse projects working with the Operations Manager for continuous improvement. As a Team Leader you will lead from the front managing a team of 6 full-time warehouse staff as well as seasonal workers in peak times up to 15 at busy times. In return the successful candidate will get a competitive salary, salary incentives, free hot drinks/lunch/snacks/parking and overtime opportunities at 1.5 times hourly rate. This is a hands-on role and will well suit a candidate who's happy to be agile, get things done and driving efficiency/performance.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

  • Monitor picking operations to ensure safety and performance are maintained in-line with company expectations and targets.
  • Identify any empty pick faces and request stock replenishment via appropriate team member.
  • Ensure product labels are printed, stock is clearly labelled and in the correct location.
  • Liaise with Operations Manager on stock inaccuracies and to identify items that break more easily in transit and require extra care.
  • Accurate picking and dispatching of orders.
  • Leading a team of circa 6-12 warehouse operatives.
  • Engage with warehouse operatives to encourage best practice, coaching team on daily tasks for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure warehouse operatives are following company procedure in terms of safety and picking operations.
  • Ensure that housekeeping is followed in line with health & safety policies and procedures.
  • Carry out performance reviews, one-to-one meetings and first line management with direct reports as required to maintain company standards and targets.
  • Ensure records of inspection findings are kept and monitor implementation of recommendations, reporting on progress.
  • Assist the Operations Manager to ensure the operation is fully compliant with legislation (including tachograph requirements) and company policy.
  • Responsible for providing weekly warehouse KPI's.
Requirements
  • Previous experience of working within the warehouse environment is essential.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety standards within a warehouse and distribution environment including manual handling.
  • Previous experience of managing and developing teams.
  • IT knowledge including warehouse management systems is preferred, experience of using scanners (would be an advantage).
  • Computer literate in MS Office and other IT systems.
  • Be able to lead change, engage and communicate to the team.
  • Be able to identify and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability to implement and support change successfully.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Excellent organisational skills and prioritising workload.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
