Markerstudy is a leading provider of private insurance in the UK, insuring around 5% of the private cars on the UK roads, % of commercial vehicles and over % of motorcycles in total premium levels of circa £1.2b. The majority of business is written as the insurance pricing provider behind household names such as Co-op, Sainsbury’s, O2, Halifax, AA, Saga and Lloyds Bank to list a few. Markerstudy also has a large and growing direct presence in the market as well.

Role Purpose:

Working with the Head of MI Development to deliver high quality data management across Markerstudy. You will be responsible for providing meaningful management information data into the business to support improved financial and operational performance, manage and maintain technical solutions, and provide BAU support.

To act as a mentor to more junior team members, utilising your advanced system knowledge to bring on the wider team and to adhere to FSA, TCF, GDPR Regulations, and the completion of Mandatory E-Learning.

Responsibilities

  1. Support the Head of MI Development with building, maintaining and improving the MISL data warehouse.
  2. Model and transform data from new data sources to support the ever-growing Markerstudy brand, using data modelling techniques to normalise and integrate multiple data sources to drive business value.
  3. Proactively take ideas, concepts, and relationships forward to support department data initiatives that help inform the overall strategic direction of the business.
  4. Support the department with ongoing migration to SAS Viya and look to utilise new technology to drive efficient ETL processes.
  5. Constantly review the way data is processed in the business, looking for ways to improve running times and efficiency.
  6. Be an advocate of data governance activities, policies and procedures.
  7. Drive continuous improvements in data quality standards.
  8. Assist with the resolution of known data issues, ensuring root causes are identified and sustainable solutions are developed and implemented.
  9. Assist with data risk prioritisation and reporting.
  10. Help ensure that day-to-day data processing completes, to agreed timelines with no failures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Previous experience in a DW or BI role.
  • Essential experience of coding in SAS and SAS Macros.
  • Essential experience of SAS DI Studio & Enterprise Guide.
  • Experience with data modelling techniques.
  • Experience with ETL concepts and data warehousing techniques.
  • Experience of data quality management concepts.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Detailed data analysis and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to translate technical detail into simple language that non-technical people can understand.
  • Able to operate in a fast-changing market and environment, often tackling issues without clear precedents.
  • Confident in own judgement and decision-making, sees challenges as development opportunities, not problems.
  • Experience of SAS Viya.
  • Experience of SAS Visual Analytics.
  • Experience of SQL Server.
  • Experience with Apache Airflow.
  • Experience using MS Dev Ops for workflow and CI/CD pipelines.
