Job description

Consultant Haematologist - East of England - Perm/FTC

Triple West Medical has been appointed by an NHS Trust based in the East of England to help recruit a Consultant Haematologist for a substantive basis, and they would also consider a Locum Consultant on a 12 Months FTC.

They are one of the largest NHS Trusts in the region providing acute and community services and cover a population of over 850,000 with over 7,500 staff over 2 main sites. The department has an active interest in clinical research working with the local university and is now seeking a new member to join their team.

The job plan is expected to contain 10 PA's, 8.5 PA's of direct clinical care and 1.5 SPA's per week. You will be required to complete 8 sessions at the main Hospital site and 2 sessions at the other site (TBC and willing to discuss).

Brief Duties/Responsibilities

  1. To provide clinical haematology care including outpatient, day care and in-patient review.
  2. Take part and discuss the management of patients with malignant haematological diseases at the Network Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings.
  3. To deal with any clinical haematology referrals from clinical colleagues from other disciplines (medical, surgical, obstetric etc.).
  4. To deal with Inpatient referrals, Choose and Book referrals and Advice & Guidance requests from General Practitioners.
  5. To provide laboratory services including blood film and marrow review, laboratory, anticoagulant and transfusion support.
  6. To provide clinical liaison for service users from hospital and community teams.
  7. To take all measures to ensure consistently high standards of performance are achieved and maintained in the laboratories.
  8. To collaborate with the biomedical scientists and other members of the laboratory staff.
  9. To participate in the Postgraduate and Undergraduate teaching programmes, and teaching of other healthcare professionals.
  10. To participate in appraisal and assessment of junior medical colleagues.
