Electrical Technician

The job holder is responsible for providing engineering support and capability to the Electrical Services Group. To enable successful delivery of operation, maintenance and enhancement of the Culham site power supply infrastructure and low voltage control systems, ensuring compliance with current legislation and codes of practice.

To lead small to medium plant related work packages associated with complex HV/LV electrical equipment, minor installation/modification tasks, technical studies including preparation of documentation. To perform fault-finding activities on the electrical plant and ensure that proposed solutions are technically robust. The job holder shall be expected to possess some leadership and management skills and be at a competency needed to supervise work on electrical systems.

Accountabilities:

1. Lead specific work undertaken by the Electrical Services Group and all associated documentation. Ensure it is in compliance with current legislation and codes of practice and delivered safely and effectively.
2. Supervise multidisciplinary teams comprising electrical staff (up to L4), agency supplied workers (ASW's) and external contractors where necessary, to support UKAEA operations.
3. Take full ownership of relevant work packages ensuring all technical criteria are satisfied and that work can be carried out in a safe and cost-effective manner.
4. Take responsibility for design, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning and maintenance of assigned electrical systems.
5. Preparation of engineering procedures, risk assessments, method statements and local rules in support of the Electrical Services Group's requirements.
6. Interpret supplier requirements and submit related documentation for review and approval, considering costs are controlled within Group budgetary constraints.
7. Provide assurance by calculation, analysis and review of existing electrical switchgear and cabling.
8. Work with the Health & Safety group to deliver regular toolbox talks on work and safety procedures.
9. Attain NP(E)/AP(E) status to safely carry out isolation procedures and write switching schedules where necessary.

Specific Qualifications/Experience:

1. Completion of Electrical Installation Apprenticeship (minimum of Level 3).
2. Completion of Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme.
3. Electrical supervisory experience.
4. Must demonstrate knowledge of large distribution networks.
5. Must demonstrate a high level of understanding of electrical safety and work control system components.
6. Professional experience which demonstrates an ability to work at this level.
