Job Summary

Due to the promotion of the current post holder, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join an award-winning finance team as a Senior Finance Business Partner, supporting the newly formed Community & Diagnostic Division. You will be responsible for the provision of high-quality financial advice, information, analysis, and interpretation to aid effective decision making and financial performance, an integral part of the divisional management team. We offer a flexible working pattern and agile working, with an average of 2 days a week on site.

Main duties of the job

  1. To lead the Divisional finance function, being an integral part of the Divisional management team, advising on all aspects of financial management of the Division and the Trust.
  2. To assist in the development of strategies for the financial management of the Division and provide financial management support to the process of service modernisation within the Trust.
  3. To assist the Assistant Director of Finance - Financial Management in the management of the Financial Management function and in ensuring a rigorous operational financial framework is in place.
  4. To deputise for the Assistant Director of Finance - Financial Management as required.
  5. To contribute to the management of the Finance Directorate, taking the lead on particular trust-wide initiatives and manage the work of the Division finance team.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
  1. Ensuring that all clinical leadership and management teams within the Division are provided with expert financial advice to allow them to deliver their financial targets.
  2. Provide both general and financial advice as appropriate, consistent with the Trust's business plans, policies, and financial strategy.
  3. Work with the Assistant Director of Finance Financial Management, Division and corporate finance colleagues to introduce and develop an effective system of service line reporting and patient level costing.
  4. Participate in the preparation of business cases, taking responsibility for finance sections, and contribute to the business planning process of both the Finance Directorate and the Trust.
  5. Provide advice and training for budget managers, non-finance staff, and other finance staff on all aspects of financial management.
  6. Manage and lead a specified Deputy Finance Business Partner (DFBP) and support team, co-ordinating their non-Division workload and taking an active role in the professional and personal development of all Financial Management staff.
  7. Act as Trust Finance lead on specified corporate and cross-Division financial issues, including those of service modernisation.
  8. Facilitate meetings both between Divisions and with external organisations to agree the finance elements of service provision arrangements with those bodies.
  9. Negotiate, on behalf of the Trust, the finance element of specific contracts with external organisations.
  10. Liaise with external bodies regarding funding for specific projects and developments.
  11. Participate in challenging decision-making processes, being able to deliver difficult messages, sometimes in the face of opposition, whilst ensuring professional standards are adhered to at all times.

  • CCAB Fully Qualified Accountant or CIMA member
  • Participation in the Continuing Professional Development Programme.

Experience
Essential
  • Relevant financial management experience with significant practical and theoretical knowledge of financial planning and business case development.
  • Advising on the management of large complex budgets and providing financial advice to non-financial managers in a clearly understood and authoritative manner.

Desirable
  • Experience of working within the acute sector of the NHS
  • Knowledge of the NHS and its financial regime.
