About Our Client

My client is a global commodities firm based in London. The team consists of 5 people focusing on market risk and credit risk. This role is for a Market Risk Manager or Risk Manager - Metals.

Job Description

The Risk Manager - Metals will be responsible for the market risk and operational risk function of the firm, supporting the liquidity risk reporting process and other risk functions such as committee work, NPA process, ICARA process, and interaction with external stakeholders. Responsibilities include:

1. Daily management (identification, measurement, monitoring, and control) of market, operational, and liquidity risk.
2. Ensuring an effective and independent risk function for market and operational risk.
3. Developing and enhancing relevant risk management policies, mechanisms, instructions, and procedures; engaging the board and seeking approval where appropriate.
4. Providing timely and effective risk management information to RMC, the board, and other stakeholders such as LME clear and RMD of the holding company.
5. Setting various risk management indicators and monitoring measures; performing daily monitoring over various risk aspects.
6. Executing internal control procedures and providing advice and recommendations to management on those procedures.
7. Ensuring that risk data and reporting are fit for purpose in terms of quality, quantity, and breadth.
8. Providing oversight and challenge of the firm's systems and controls in respect of risk management, such as annual ORCA review.
9. Maintaining and developing margin models for current and new products/markets; maintaining and backtesting liquidity risk model (including stress testing).

The Successful Applicant

For the Risk Manager - Metals role, the successful applicant will have:

1. Experience of at least 5 years in Market Risk.
2. Experience with Commodities and Base Metals.
3. Experience with the LME.
4. Considerable knowledge and experience of best practice risk management and governance frameworks, methodologies, and practices.
5. Leadership skills, including the ability to exercise oversight of risk governance.
6. Proven ability to oversee multiple risk types, including market, liquidity, and operational risk.
7. Knowledge of the regulatory environment and key regulatory regimes.
8. Experience with the commodities and energy market.
9. Strong financial analytic and IT skills.
10. Chinese language skills are useful.
11. Significant UK regulatory experience.
