Salary: £420+ for a typical inspection and report.

Role: Part-time contract role, based in South-East England or London.

Location: Working from home.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Abbott Holliday Partnership is a Structural Engineering consultancy, based in the South-East and specialising in domestic and small commercial clients, operating as a family business for over 45 years. We are now underway with an ambitious programme of investment and growth, and require a number of Associate Structural Engineer (ASE) roles to conduct site visits for the purposes of defect inspections, design and/or expert witness cases.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct design jobs, attend site visit, prepare the necessary design, drawing and calculation work and submit to head office.
  • Conduct structural defect inspection jobs, attend site visit, prepare a report with your findings, conclusions and recommendations.
  • If you would like, involvement with litigation-related jobs, attend site visit, prepare a CPR-compliant report and if necessary, attend court as an Expert Witness.
  • Contribute regularly to online diary to keep others informed of commitments.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, CHARACTERISTICS & COMPETENCIES

  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Well-attuned to latest UK Building Regulations and design standards.
  • Communicate clearly in fluent English, spoken and written.
  • Prepare clear and detailed reports and/or drawings for peer reviewing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, including paragraph and picture formatting layouts.
  • Access to a car and clean driving licence.

DESIRED

  • Experience managing staff.
  • Familiarity with structural design software and CAD.
  • Litigation or expert witness experience (training can be provided).

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Demonstrate common sense in order to scrutinise with a focus on what the client needs.
  • Confidence to make conclusive statements in own and peers’ reports.
  • Ability to produce high quality reports/drawings, attention to detail, spelling and grammar.
  • Possess a can-do attitude and work well with others in the team.
  • Ability to consider and present a solution when bringing a problem to the table.
