Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the Sizewell C Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Join Our Team as a Programme Engineering Manager for our Nuclear Islands programme!

Are you ready to play a pivotal role in one of the most ambitious and transformative projects in the UK? The Sizewell C Technical Directorate (TD) are looking for a passionate Programme Engineering Manager to join us in our dynamic Civil Works Programme focussed on the Nuclear Island (NI) structures.

Nuclear Island (NI): is the heart of a nuclear power plant, housing critical components like the reactor, steam generators, and containment structure. It is responsible for generating heat through nuclear fission and ensuring safety with robust systems and controls. The NI works alongside the Conventional Island, which converts steam into electricity, forming the core of the plant’s operations.

Conventional Island (CI) refers to the part of a power plant that directly generates electricity, including systems like the boiler, turbine, generator, and condenser. Balance of Plant (BOP) encompasses the supporting infrastructure and systems that ensure the plant operates efficiently, such as electrical, cooling, fuel handling, and control systems, but are not directly involved in power generation.

The key accountabilities for this role are:

  • Managing the implementation of SZC’s end-to-end engineering, configuration and design replication strategy.
  • Supporting the Programmes in interpreting and applying replication and configuration management principles to make best project decisions.
  • Implementing strategic and transverse engineering requirements, sequences and methods.
  • Overseeing design and technical topics for the relevant programme(s), serving as the main point of contact for technical issues, risks and opportunities.
  • Providing guidance on ways of working, responsibilities, deliverables, boundaries, interfaces, and scopes for matters related to the design.
  • Ensuring the necessary engineering resources and other specialists are mobilised to deliver quality, on-time delivery of the design for SZC.
  • Discharging the role of Principal Designer under CDM regulations for their scope on behalf of Technical Director.
  • The role-holder will manage direct reports (teams up to 10-15 engineers) from within the Technical Directorate, and also a multi-disciplinary team drawn from the Technical Directorate, the Delivery Programmes and Nuclear Services.
