Assistant Ecologist

As our company grows and develops, we are ever expanding our teams. We have a great opportunity for a dedicated Assistant Ecologist to join our Environment & Safety Division and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride.

We are looking for a proactive, reliable and flexible Assistant Ecologist to join our Environmental team. As a member of the team, it is key that you have the balance to be driven and independent, as well as being a strong team player. A background in environmental consultancy and knowledge of the industry are essential in order to thrive in this role.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

1. Assist in conducting a wide range of ecological surveys in an ever developing team, including surveys for bats, birds, reptiles, great crested newts, dormice, badgers, and other protected species.
2. Support in the production of Preliminary Ecological Appraisal and Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments.
3. Help compile and write survey reports.
4. Assist in carrying out fieldwork, ensuring accurate data collection and maintenance of detailed field notes.
5. Participate in ‘out-of-hours’ surveys, including ecological watching briefs.
6. Assist senior team members with more complex projects.
7. Ensure accurate and well-organised data records are maintained.
8. Take responsibility for some project management tasks under the guidance of senior consultants, ensuring deadlines are met and work is completed to a high standard.
9. Assist in related environmental works such as soil and groundwater monitoring.

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:

1. To contribute effectively to projects, proposals and other allocated business operations within your scope of knowledge and competence.
2. To provide day to day input and support to enable the business to meet operational performance and financial targets.
3. To continue to develop your own capabilities to enable the ongoing success and growth of the business.
4. Undertaking all duties with minimal supervision, on time and to a suitable level of quality and safety.
5. Planning and managing your work to ensure effective delivery of projects.
6. Ensuring that all quality and financial systems are complied with and that all safety and survey related equipment in your area of work is operational serviced / calibrated as necessary.

Our Environmental team is made up of many different specialists all operating in within different areas of expertise. The main areas we cover are Environmental Monitoring and Consultancy together with specialist laboratories to support our services. Our services range from on site monitoring and sample collection, ranging from local businesses to large Government contracts, to consultancy works on large contaminated land projects, complimented with onsite works for dust, noise, and local exhaust emissions. We pride ourselves in our ability to consult, monitor and test for our clients, supporting all their needs in one place, using our highly trained employees.
