The Project Controller is a gateway between the finance and project team by ensuring that the financial performance of projects is correctly measured and reported on a monthly basis and help to coach project teams to understand the financial life cycle of their projects from the proposal process to conclusion.

What You’ll Do:

As a Project Controller, you’ll be at the heart of our projects, ensuring financial clarity and supporting teams to achieve their goals. Key responsibilities include:

  • Business Partnering: Collaborate with non-finance managers to improve processes and enhance their understanding of financial requirements.
  • Project Accounting: Take ownership of project accounting processes from start to finish, including budgets, revisions, and financial systems.
  • Financial Reporting: Provide robust financial reporting, including monthly project profitability analysis, variance reports, and forecast updates.
  • Revenue Recognition: Ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition for all projects.
  • Project Profitability Support: Help improve the measurement of projects profitability with the proposal process.
  • Training and Guidance: Deliver financial training and inductions for project teams, both in the UK and overseas, to ensure consistent financial understanding.
  • Invoicing and Cost Monitoring: Oversee timely client invoicing, manage project expenses, and maintain project-related records (contracts, change orders, etc.).
  • Supplier and Overhead Reviews: Review and approve supplier invoices and related overhead charges.
  • Systems and Process Improvements: Continuously enhance financial processes and bespoke financial reporting across the business.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re searching for an ambitious, hands-on professional who thrives in a dynamic and growing consultancy environment. You’ll excel in this role if you have:

  • Professional Qualification: A recognised UK accounting qualification, ideally CIMA. (overseas qualifications will also be considered.)
  • Relevant Experience: Strong commercial finance experience, ideally within a consultancy or similar-sized business.
  • Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated ability to provide strategic financial insights.
  • Project Knowledge: Familiarity with the project structure in a client/consultant business environment.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively partner with non-finance stakeholders.
  • Analytical Skills: A problem-solving mindset with the ability to analyse complex financial data and drive actionable insights.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced Excel proficiency (e.g., VLOOKUP, SUMIF, graphs) and a high level of computer literacy.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: Ability to work independently, set priorities, and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Service Orientation: A passion for guiding and teaching non-finance staff on finance matters.
