Environmental Health Officer - Residential

Our client in Sussex is seeking a skilled and experienced Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner to oversee caravan site licensing activities.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the inspection and regulation of residential and holiday caravan sites, ensuring compliance with legislative standards.

Rate circa £40-£46 Per Hour

Key Responsibilities:

1. Inspection and Regulation:
   Conduct inspections of residential and holiday caravan sites to assess compliance with relevant legislation and licensing conditions.
   Provide advice to site operators to improve standards and address areas of non-compliance.
2. Complaint Investigation:
   Investigate complaints related to caravan sites, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
   Maintain accurate records of complaint investigations and actions taken.
3. Fit and Proper Person Assessment:
   Assess applications for fit and proper person status under the Mobile Homes (Fit and Proper Person) Regulations.
   Evaluate evidence and prepare reports for decision-making purposes.
4. Enforcement Actions:
   Issue compliance notices where necessary to address breaches of site licence conditions.
   Prepare evidence for and attend court or tribunal proceedings to support enforcement actions.
5. Collaboration and Communication:
   Work collaboratively with colleagues, site operators, and other stakeholders.
   Provide clear and professional communication, including written reports and recommendations.

Requirements:

1. Recent and demonstrable experience in a similar Environmental Health role, particularly in housing and caravan site licensing.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960 and the Mobile Homes Act 2013.
3. Strong investigative and analytical skills.
4. Experience in enforcement, including issuing compliance notices and attending legal proceedings.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
6. Ability to work flexibly, including attending sites at short notice.

Working Conditions:

This is a hybrid role, with a combination of remote working and site attendance as required. The role will necessitate a proactive approach to managing workload and availability for site visits on short notice.
