Join our team at the Guardian and be a part of a diverse and inclusive global organisation that delivers fearless, investigative journalism, and holds power to account. Our team of award-winning journalists, cutting-edge commercial professionals, and industry-leading digital experts are committed to making a difference and represent a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. We offer a challenging and exciting environment for career development, with a focus on training, growth and fostering an inclusive culture.

We’re now looking for a Network & Security Engineer to join the wider IT infrastructure team, made up of collaborative engineers who implement, innovate and support the range of infrastructure solutions which underpin our internal IT services.

In this role you will be responsible for effective security, design, provision, configuration, availability and maintenance of the Guardian News & Media (GNM) network infrastructure, working in a team of engineers.

About the Role:

  • As part of a team of 4 engineers, you will be responsible for the stability and availability of the network infrastructure, including network security, monitoring and reporting, failover test and disaster recovery procedures.
  • You’ll implement best practice for all network configurations, including firewall configurations.
  • You’ll troubleshoot technical issues across varied technologies, taking ownership of issues and seeing them through to resolution. You’ll work with internal stakeholders and third parties to resolve escalated technical problems and requests.
  • Collaborate with the wider infrastructure team on projects, proactively sharing knowledge with your peers through design, support and incident management documentation.
  • You’ll help to translate complex networking technologies, design and issues to those with less technical or networking knowledge.
  • You’ll stay up to date on emerging technologies and industry trends within network infrastructure and engineering.

About You:

  • Demonstrated experience within network infrastructure as an engineer, including routing, switching, LAN, Cisco wireless technologies, firewalls, testing and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Cisco certified Network Professional (CCNP) qualification.
  • Experience with cloud implementation.
  • Proactive and able to work independently, eager to learn new technologies and develop your skillset.
  • Enjoys team collaboration and project work, keen to contribute as part of the wider Infrastructure team.

This role includes out of hours cover which is managed on a rota basis and shared between the Network & Security Engineering team. Engineers will be paid an additional monthly allowance for out of hours cover.
