Mechanical Design Engineer / CAD Designer who has experience of mechanical or product design / prototyping and is proficient in using 3D Mechanical Design Tools such as SolidWorks or similar is required for a well-established company based in Bury, Greater Manchester, North West England.

SALARY: £36,000 - £42,000 per annum + Bonus + Benefits

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the company’s Product Development Team.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will have a passion for developing new products in a fast-paced commercial environment and instinctively take ownership of problems to see solutions through to fruition.

The position is based in their newly furnished office in Bury, North Manchester, which currently benefits from cycling facilities and a recreation space.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Mechanical Design Engineer include:

1. Collaborating with the design team and other stakeholders to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems
2. Develop mechanical design specifications that address product requirements in a reliable and cost-effective manner
3. Methodically develop and assess different concepts or approaches to achieve mechanical design goals
4. Present solutions in accordance with the peer review process (e.g. DFMEA, mechanical design review)
5. Generate and maintain product GA drawings & detailed manufacturing drawings
6. Analyse designs against relevant best practices and model / carry out design calculations to verify expected performance
7. Design tests to qualify concepts and products, and the fabricating & procuring of test equipment
8. Support Production (located in Malaysia) in setting up and maintaining supply lines and production processes for new and existing products

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Required:

1. Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar
2. Previous experience of mechanical or product design
3. Proficient in using 3D Mechanical design tools (e.g. SolidWorks)
4. Experience in prototyping
5. Comfortable and effective in a wide range of situations: detailed design at a CAD station; prototyping in the lab; conducting investigations and root cause analyses; presenting solutions to multi-disciplinary audiences
6. Good presentation and report writing skills
7. Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team, willing to question and challenge the status quo
8. Good attention to detail, and a commitment to getting things 'right first time’

Desired:

1. Experience in product design, utilising a wide range of manufacturing processes
2. Experience in designing parts for injection moulding, including an appreciation of tooling design
3. Experience in managing product and design configurations
