Job Description:Summary / purpose of the positionWe are seeking a highly motivated Scientific Intelligence Senior Manager to support our Oncology, Rare Diseases and Neuroscience External Innovation group. This role will lead the scientific intelligence searches to identify partnering opportunities for IPSEN and maintain IPSEN's teams up to date on the major events happening or to come that could drive a partnering decision. On an as needed basis, you will support the EI team in strategic & operational evaluation processes.
The ideal candidate has experience in scientific intelligence and drug discovery, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for translating complex data into comprehensible output to support decision.
Main responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive scientific and competitive intelligence research to identify drug discovery programs and commercial assets of interest in our three therapeutic areas. For that you will collaborate with R&D, business development, and commercial teams to create an IPSEN vision of what assets to look for in each space and then execute searches to identify the top opportunities to prioritize for evaluation.
- Data processing and communication. That's a key aspect for the role. You will not only be responsible for sourcing opportunities through databases, but you will also be responsible for creating the tools to drive decisions. The development of concise reports, presentations, and dashboards to communicate insights to cross-functional teams. Your input and recommendations will be important.
- Keeping the teams up to date and proactive. A key aspect of EI activities is to keep track of key events happening in our field of interest and those to come. As such you will be responsible for creating the tools that inform the company of those changes (e.g., clinical trial results, sudden changes in stock prices). You will create dashboards informing the team and the top management on the most relevant events to happen in a field (such as clinical trial results) in the coming 12 months that could create a decision to partner. Create watch alerts to follow those events.
- Support of external innovation activities: In evaluation, create competitive landscapes and provide input. Work with other EI team members to serve as a representative of IPSEN to biotech, venture, and academic communities, including assisting with discussions at partnering conferences and company meetings. Drive awareness of IPSEN and position IPSEN as a partner of choice. Share best practices with other members of the IPSEN External Innovation community and build a solid partnership with them and the rest of IPSEN.
Education / Certifications- Expected PhD in life sciences, preferably Biological Sciences or Biology with 5 years of professional experience, inclusive of post-doctoral fellowship experience.
- Minimum Master's degree in life sciences or a bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of professional experience in a combination of research and commercial or business development roles in the life science industry.
Technical expertise- Ability to manage large data sets and create meaningful and highly synthetic documents and tools that support teams' actions and decisions. Previous experience with scientific intelligence tools (databases such as global data or AlphaSense) is a must.
- Previous experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI is highly desirable. Demonstrated knowledge of the Drug Discovery and Development Processes. Knowledge of one of our three therapeutic areas (Oncology, Rare Diseases, and Neuroscience) is desirable but not mandatory.
Functional expertise- Ability to synthesize complex data and present it to stakeholders with very different backgrounds (including top management).
- Ability to align different functions and synthesize/create a corporate vision in a field of interest (e.g., indication).
- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multitask efficiently and prioritize quickly, particularly in running a portfolio of projects in parallel.
Interpersonal and Behavioral skills- Experience working in a matrix environment as well as leveraging the matrix. Lead multifunctional projects.
- Interpersonal & leadership skills and ability to represent Ipsen in a highly professional manner.
- Proactive and thorough - detail-oriented with the ability to keep the big picture in mind.
- Articulate findings concisely through verbal and written (including presentations) communication.
