Healthcare Assistant - Kingfisher Ward - Oxford

We are looking for Healthcare Assistants who are highly motivated, enthusiastic and thoughtful individuals, with an interest in rehabilitation and recovery to join our multi-disciplinary team at Thames House in Oxford.

This is a 26 bedded, low secure unit for women with a diagnosis of mental illness and/or personality disorder. Many of our service users have had experience of the criminal justice system in the past. The unit is split into a 10 bedded high dependency unit (Kestrel Ward) and a 16 bed lower dependency unit (Kingfisher Ward).

We have established very effective ways of working with the patients to help them identify and reach their goals, whilst keeping them safe and supporting them onwards to a new life in the community.

We'll need you to have excellent communication skills with a flexible and positive attitude. We share a caring, non-judgmental and inclusive attitude, committed to the delivery of safe, high quality care. Experience in a secure setting would be an advantage but is not essential as we'll provide you with all the training required.

You'll work a rotating shift pattern to cover our 24/7 service. This will be a mixture of early and late day shifts with one night week in every four.

This role includes an RSU allowance of £1,446 per annum on top of your salary.

All our services are staffed by full multi-disciplinary teams including nurses, doctors, psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists, and supported by a variety of other professional colleagues including adult education, allied health professionals, and fitness instructors.

We'll need you to be dynamic and committed by actively contributing to and supporting the recovery process, as well as maintaining the high standards of patient care whilst working within a safe, secure and supportive environment. You'll contribute and participate in the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of care and treatment for people with mental health problems.

Main Duties Include:

1. Carry out work on an allocated patient workload and be self-directed in managing that patient and following plans of care both on the ward and in the patients own home.
2. To have the knowledge and related competence to undertake a range of clinical procedures and clinical observations including venepuncture, cannulation, phlebotomy and medication support through shared care protocols.
3. Report any changes in the patients condition including deterioration of a patient to a registered member of staff.
4. Ensure dignity is enhanced through service delivery.
5. It is mandatory for you to complete PEACE Teamwork training and other training directly related to the job.
