Location: Lister Fertility at The Portland, Great Portland Street, London W1W 5AH

Hours: Full and part time hours can be considered

About the Role

The Senior Embryologist and Assistant Quality Manager role is a split role involving three days in the lab, performing all aspects of the routine embryology and andrology service offered by the Fertility Unit with an additional two days supporting the Quality Manager looking at the performance of the laboratory and clinical key performance indicators (KPI), laboratory internal and external auditing, update of laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs), document control and investigation of incidents & non-conformances. Additionally, the role will require monitoring and evaluation to aid in continual quality improvement of the laboratory.

Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical:
  1. All aspects of routine embryology and andrology procedures: dish preparation, semen analysis, semen preparation, oocyte collection, insemination via ICSI, fertilisation checks, embryo culture, embryo transfer, embryo biopsy, cryopreservation of gametes/embryos and SSR procedures.
  2. To communicate results to patients, explain treatment options and the implications.
  3. To accurately record details of patient cycles in the patient management system. Use of Meditex and Fertility consent would be desirable.
  4. To perform witnessing and traceability.
  5. To prepare laboratory notes and check consents and screening results.
  6. To perform transport of gametes/embryos in and out of the clinic.
Quality:
  1. Generation of laboratory and clinical KPIs on a quarterly basis and associated internal and external auditing.
  2. Rolling annual update of laboratory SOPs and documentation within Sharepoint and Q Pulse.
  3. Laboratory Incident management: investigation, corrective and preventative actions.
  4. HFEA reporting through PRISM.
  5. Identification of opportunities for quality improvements with particular reference to the embryology laboratory and quantify benefits using audit, key performance indicators and other methods.
Minimum Requirements

For this role you will hold a BSc in Life Science and be ACE certificated/STP with experience of clinical ICSI. HCPC Registered. At least 6 years' experience as a clinical embryologist. Ideally embryo biopsy trained, however not essential.
