Job description

Our prestige engineering client is currently recruiting for the following role:

DVA Lead Engineer - £34.50/hr (Outside IR35 subject to assessment) - Crewe (5 days on-site)

Role Summary:
The Dimensional Variation Analysis Lead Engineer will be responsible for leading and conducting dimensional variation analysis to ensure the precision and quality of the automotive products. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify, analyse, and mitigate dimensional variation issues throughout the product development and manufacturing processes.

Area of Responsibility:

  1. Lead and perform dimensional variation analysis using 3DCS (v8.0) tools.
  2. Creation and maintenance of the tolerance analysis model using 3DCS to provide Gap and Rad, FMK, B-release drawing validation.
  3. Good understanding and knowledge of build process for the complete vehicle (underbody BIW, hat & closures, final assembly interior and exterior trims).
  4. Expert in reading of GD&T and 2D drawing and implement that information in DCS model.
  5. Generation of study reports with recommendation for preferred location strategy, concept, process, fixture design etc.
  6. Develop and implement strategies to control and reduce dimensional variation in products and processes.
  7. Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to identify potential sources of variation and recommend corrective actions.
  8. Create and maintain detailed documentation of analysis results, methodologies, and corrective actions.
  9. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
  10. Conduct root cause analysis for dimensional variation issues and implement effective solutions.
  11. Support the development and validation of measurement systems and inspection processes.
  12. Participate in design reviews and provide input on dimensional tolerances and specifications.
  13. Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in dimensional analysis techniques and tools.

Skills / Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 6 years of experience in dimensional variation analysis or a related role.
  3. Proficiency in tolerance analysis software 3DCS and CAD software CATIA, TeamCentre.
  4. Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
  5. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and lead cross-functional projects.
  8. Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes and quality control methodologies.

Additional Information:
This role is on a contract basis and is for an initial 6 month period with the potential to extend. The role is based on site, 5 days per week in Crewe.
