Location: 4 days REMOTE, 1 @Reston, VA

Clearance Requirements: Must possess an active Top Secret security clearance and be eligible for immediate SCI nomination and indoctrination. Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer for a position located in Reston, VA, with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). This candidate is responsible for providing Systems Engineering & Technical Assistance (SETA) technical documentation oversight for the Operations & Integration (OI) Threat Solutions Division (TSD) technical contract. This organization’s contract solves emerging analytical problems through implementation of custom-developed IT capabilities, as well as by operationalizing advanced technologies from public, private, and academic sectors. These capabilities support global situational awareness augmented by focused support to approved initiatives and decisive efforts. The organization’s response to emerging threats requires the ability to innovate, adapt, and meet additional as-needed support while leveraging analytical Techniques, Tactics, and Procedures (TTPs) learned from embedded support to Combatant Commands (COCOMs) and tactical operations.

Responsibilities

  • Produce easily-digestible technical documentation by gathering information from several stakeholders including analysts, engineers, scientists, and program managers.
  • Understand the technical specifications, proposed technical solution, and articulate the solution components via development of a comprehensive technical documentation that meets organizational standards.
  • Ensure documents align with applicable policies, guidance, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure technical writing and documents are tailored to intended audience.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical requirements and concepts into plain English reports and presentations.
  • Edit deliverables for quality assurance; to include clarity, punctuation, grammar, and content.
  • Manage numerous projects with tight deadlines and be a creative self-starter.
  • Develop and maintain style guides, templates, checklists and other guidance material designed to provide easy access to key information regarding organization documentation requirements, formats and quality standards.
  • Perform complex tasks involving the gathering, analyzing and compiling of data and information into well-written reports and presentations.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities, and initiate follow up to ensure timely achievement of commitments.
  • Work closely with application developers and architectural engineers regarding user support and requirements.
Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A strong understanding of business operations and document workflows.
  • Fluency with DoD industry standard technical summary and reporting techniques.
  • Ability to produce quality work independently or in a group setting.
  • Ability to assist in the capturing of technical requirements, and relay those details back to the government customer and performing contractors.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task and manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a track record for effectively operating and engaging with leaders and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience developing and presenting complex information to senior Government officials using Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Writing, Journalism, or degrees that emphasize concise writing of technical material, such as engineering, applied math, or physics.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of Technical Writing/Editing experience.
  • Experience producing and editing reports for a non-technical audience to support multiple stakeholders.

Physical Requirements: Employee needs to be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Most positions require ability to work with a computer for extended periods of time reading, reviewing/analyzing information, and providing recommendations, summaries, and/or reports in written format. Must be able to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing. Employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically less than 20 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
