Division Overview

Whether it’s moving a Handysize cargo of cement across the Atlantic, or a 180,000-tonne shipment of iron ore, our brokers work alongside our analysts and Research team to deliver a seamless service. We are the world’s biggest dry cargo shipbroker with 14 offices in six continents.

Role Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a numerate undergraduate to join our Market Analysis team in London this summer, for 12-14 months. This will afford the opportunity to work in a team analysing shipping and commodities markets and transforming data, as well as gain exposure to the commercial side of the world’s shipping industry. This is a full-time IN OFFICE role.

What you’ll be doing

  1. Primary focus will include working with London, Geneva and Singapore analysts to support data development acquiring data from primary and secondary data sources.
  2. Utilising data analytics tools to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  3. Writing up and communicating findings from the data and linking with broader news items.
  4. Supporting senior team members in preparing presentations that are delivered to key clients.
  5. Providing general assistance to the Market Analysis team and brokers with a variety of ad-hoc analytical requests.
  6. Possibility to interact with a wide range of internal and external clients.
  7. Interact with brokers to gain additional market insights and develop relationships.

Other requirements

  1. Excellent and personable communication skills, being fluent in written and spoken English including the ability to present to a small group of people.
  2. Ability to collaborate and work well as part of a results-oriented, dynamic office-based team.
  3. Interest in global politics, economics and world events.
  4. Comfortable in handling large volumes of data and preferably familiar with SQL / python.
  5. Experience in developing data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  6. The ability to demonstrate initiative, determination, high quality output and excellent communication skills.
