Hello, my name is Karl Senior, and I am the manager of Wakefield CAMHS Specialised Therapies Team. We are looking for an appropriately experienced Band 7 Drama psychotherapist to join our well-established and supportive specialist therapy team. This is a new role within the service, and the new post holder will be involved in shaping and developing this new provision to meet the needs of the young people accessing the service and to enhance our existing psychotherapy offer. Our therapy team prides itself on providing the highest standard of assessment, treatment, client-centered and holistic care, working in a safe and supportive environment within a range of community settings.

The organisation has a well-established professional leadership structure led by a Chief AHP, with access to strong professional networks and a wide range of profession-specific training and career progression opportunities available.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a skilled Band 7 drama psychotherapist to provide specialist psychotherapy assessment and creative psychotherapy interventions for children currently in receipt of Wakefield community CAMHS.

The service operates Mon-Fri 9-5 and provides therapy across Wakefield and the 5 towns. We are a supportive therapy team and work closely with the wider MDT. We provide evidence-based, trauma-informed interventions and use professional models to inform our practice and ensure the delivery of high-quality care with access to specialist resources and training.

You will have access to robust individual and group supervision to support you with your clinical and professional practice and development. You will have the opportunity to work with other professionals and providers to meet the needs of our service users. Job responsibilities

The post holder will provide specialist psychotherapy skills within a multidisciplinary team, delivering a high-quality clinical service to the users of the service.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing highly specialist assessment and intervention while working collaboratively with non-psychology and psychotherapy professionals from other agencies and carers.
  2. Clinical oversight of all work will be held by the clinical lead in the service.
  3. Working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team while observing Trust and National policies and procedures.
  4. Utilising research skills in audit, service development, and research relevant to the post.
  5. Offering consultation, supervision, and training when required by other agencies involved in the psychological, emotional, and behavioural well-being of people referred to the service.
  6. Providing consultation, assessment, and intervention in the service.
  7. Working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary context.
  8. Providing assessment and treatment options for people experiencing moderate, severe, and complex mental health problems.
  9. Exercising expert clinical judgment based on the highest standards of evidence-based practice.
  10. Seeking to expand and consolidate clinical skills using training, experience, and supervision.
  11. Providing specialist risk assessment and intervention to people who present to the service.
  12. Following appropriate Adult and Child Protection guidelines in all clinical work, including close liaison with all agencies.
  13. Liaising and consulting with the wider professional network in the care of the client.
  14. Working jointly with other team members in delivering the most appropriate clinical service to people and their families.
  15. Exercising autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of clients.
  16. Communicating in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation, and treatment plans of clients under their care and effectively evaluating progress.
  17. Receiving regular professional supervision from a senior Clinical Psychologist or psychotherapist and, where appropriate, other senior clinicians.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered qualification in core mental health/social welfare profession OR arts-related degree (for arts psychotherapy roles).
  • Qualifying level course in Psychotherapy or equivalent at Masters level.
  • Registration/Accreditation with the relevant professional/accrediting body for the model of psychotherapy relevant to this post, e.g., HCPC (arts therapy, music therapy, dramatherapy), UKCP & ACAP (counselling & psychotherapy roles), BABCP (CBT roles).
