We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Domestic Supervisor to join the Night Team at The Royal Liverpool Hospital.

You will have a good knowledge of the National Standards of Cleanliness 2021, COSHH and Infection Prevention & Control procedures. You will need effective IT, written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge and experience of supervising a cleaning service and the ability to work under pressure as part of a team using your own initiative is essential, with some flexibility in order to meet the demands of the service and the ability to motivate the team.

Supervisory experience is essential for this role.

This post is for 34.25 hours per week, working a rota four days on, four days off including some weekends.

You must be able to work nights from 19:00 - 06:00.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to maintain and monitor the National Standards of Cleanliness 2021 by coordinating and supervising the cleaning team, providing direct supervision and organization to a team of domestic staff.

Arrange cover for absences and adjust work schedules to meet the demands of the service while maintaining acceptable standards of cleanliness.

Ensure all staff in the team are working to trust policies and are properly instructed and trained in the use of standard operating methods, equipment, and techniques required to provide a clean and safe environment.

Job responsibilities

Supervise the performance of staff within the team to ensure that approved standard operating procedures are adhered to in the delivery of day-to-day cleaning of all areas of the Trust.

Ensure that the team operates at all times to the highest standards of customer care, safety, and efficiency, and that cleaning operations are conducted properly and safely by team members in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures.

Cover all absences within the supervision team, completing all relevant documentation.

Sanction domestic holidays, keeping to the agreed levels allowed per team.

Ensure all procedures are followed regarding cleaning requests from Infection Control and that cleans are correctly documented.

Attend all relevant/mandatory training courses even if outside normal shift times.

Support all staff employed within the team and facilitate effective induction and job-specific training.

Arrange short-term absence cover to ensure all areas are covered.

Adjust daily service provision as necessary in the event of staff absence or incidents.

Liaise with service users and local managers over any issues that may interfere with service delivery or concerns over service standards, reporting any concerns to line management.

Complete regular quality control checks as directed by line managers and undertake remedial action where necessary.

Arrange, plan, and deliver specific cleaning to areas such as periodic tasks.

Conduct general risk assessments for new tasks or areas and supply these to line managers.

Report all accidents and defects with machinery or buildings using the appropriate reporting system.

Regularly monitor and control the usage and storage of cleaning consumables, ensuring their safe storage and requisitioning additional stocks as required.

Conduct staff interviews, including appraisal, sickness, bereavement, discipline, and grievance in accordance with Trust policy.

Ensure ongoing appraisal and personal development plans of staff within the team are maintained in accordance with Trust policy.

Demonstrate leadership at all times, acting as a role model to motivate subordinate staff and maintain high standards of personal hygiene and appearance.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in leadership (or equivalent)

Experience

  • Previous cleaning experience at a supervisory level
  • Previous experience of cleaning within a healthcare environment

Knowledge

  • Understanding of National Standards of Cleanliness 2021
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety
  • Understanding of C.O.S.H.H. regulations
  • Understanding of the operation of cleaning machinery

Salary: £24,625 to £25,674 a year, pro-rata.
