Role Purpose
The Diversity Manager will play a key role in embedding inclusivity, equity, and representation within Steel Bones. They will ensure that diversity is at the heart of our policies, activities, and community engagement efforts. This role involves actively advocating for underrepresented groups, fostering an inclusive culture, and supporting initiatives that promote diversity across the organisation. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.
This is a hybrid role with flexibility (20 hours per week), but it requires regular travel across England and Wales to engage directly with different communities, ensuring their voices are heard and represented. It will also require working unsociable hours such as weekends; the successful candidate will make themselves available to attend/host events at best days and times which suit the communities we need to engage.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement DEI strategies aligned with company goals.
- Lead initiatives that celebrate diversity and ensure all individuals feel valued and heard.
- Educate employees on unconscious bias, cultural competence, and inclusive leadership.
- Build partnerships with organisations that promote diversity and inclusion.
- Establish policies to foster an inclusive and equitable work environment.
- Assist the CEO in executing the charity’s vision and strategic plans.
- Collaborate with leadership to integrate DEI principles across all business functions.
- Organise workshops, training, and awareness programs on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Organise DEI-related events and celebrations.
- Collect and analyse diversity metrics to measure progress and identify areas for improvement.
- Report findings to leadership and stakeholders.
- Use data-driven insights to shape DEI initiatives.
- Ensure the company complies with diversity-related laws and regulations.
- Address discrimination or harassment complaints and work towards resolution.
- Promote fair and equitable treatment in all workplace policies.
- Represent the company at DEI conferences and networking events.
- Collaborate with suppliers and vendors that support diverse communities.
- Build and maintain relationships with beneficiaries, funders, and partners.
- Represent the charity at meetings, events, and public engagements.
- Advocate for the charity’s mission and raise awareness.
- Travel across England and Wales to meet and communicate directly with diverse communities, understanding their needs and ensuring Steel Bones provides inclusive support.
- Ensure that Steel Bones’ services, resources, and events are accessible to all, particularly those from diverse backgrounds.
- Design and support programmes that enhance awareness and inclusivity within Steel Bones and the communities we serve.
- Deliver or coordinate workshops, talks, and training sessions on diversity, inclusion, and unconscious bias.
- Assist in reviewing policies to ensure they align with inclusivity and diversity best practices.
- Encourage participation and leadership from underrepresented groups within Steel Bones.
Key Skills & Experience
- A genuine passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- A proven track record of working closely with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds and delivering culturally competent services.
- Experience in advocating for marginalised or underrepresented communities, ensuring their voices are heard, and empowering individuals to overcome barriers and access opportunities.
- Proven management skills to support the CEO in running the charity.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to reach out and create new connections to expand the Steel Bones network into new locations and communities with high diversity.
- Understand the core principles of anti-oppressive practice, community development and/or youth work or willingness to undertake training in these subjects.
- Experience in developing and implementing community outreach strategies that engage diverse populations, foster collaboration, and build partnerships with all relevant stakeholders.
- High level of emotional intelligence with the ability to relate to the challenges and experiences of diverse groups, especially in emotionally charged situations.
- Ability to adapt to evolving community needs and respond to challenges with resilience and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to build relationships with diverse groups and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of accessibility and equality legislation (desirable).
- Understanding of key social justice issues related to equity, diversity, and inclusion with an ambition to steer system change.
- Willingness to travel frequently across England and Wales.
