Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Disposals Chemist to join our team. In this role, you will be reporting to the Commercial Manager - Environmental and Decommissioning and will be responsible for organising the movement of waste to disposal sites while ensuring routing is compliant and cost-effective. You will also work within the waste transfer station to ensure that all waste is packed properly and in accordance with regulations. You will collaborate with the UK-wide waste team to keep the business informed about current requirements, costs, and potential issues with various disposal routes.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Organise waste disposal loads, including listing waste on site, forming disposal loads, and arranging transportation. Work closely with the team to manage stock levels, transport availability, and disposal routes.
  2. Ensure waste is consigned, packed, and dispatched in accordance with environmental waste and dangerous goods regulations, utilising relevant data systems.
  3. Process waste on local sites for dispatch, ensuring compliance with all required standards.
  4. Manage stock in alignment with regulatory requirements and company storage KPIs.
  5. Route both hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams to established UK disposal sites, considering disposal and transport costs, along with other operational factors.
  6. Review disposal invoices to ensure alignment with quoted costs.
  7. Proactively explore and identify new disposal site options across the UK.
  8. Build and maintain strong working relationships with third-party disposal routes.
  9. Provide support across other business areas, including Industrial Services and Logistics, as needed.
  10. Occasional UK travel may be required to support other ASCO UK locations, assist customers, and for training and development.
Minimum Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours)
  1. Previous experience in waste management, waste disposal, or a related field is preferred.
  2. Knowledge of environmental waste and dangerous goods regulations.
  3. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  4. Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively with different teams.
  5. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with third-party partners.
Minimum Qualifications

Degree in Chemistry/Minimum HNC/D in chemistry related subject

Desirable Qualifications / Competencies
  1. Knowledge of waste process and site permits and other waste legislation
  2. Vehicle Banksman/Spotter
