JOB DESCRIPTION – DIRECTOR OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

Location: Remote, United Kingdom

Contract Terms: Permanent

The TM Insights and analytics team is a market leading data and analytics provider focused on innovation and unlocking the power of data for our clients by building high quality data integration and real time analytics products.

THE JOB

Ticketmaster is looking for an experienced, motivated, technical Director of Software Engineering to lead our high performing team of accomplished engineers in developing modern analytics, insights and data integrations products solving complex problems and driving technical innovation.

As a Director of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for providing hands-on leadership to the team, defining technical vision towards building new features and product. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building real-time streaming applications along with utilizing modern technologies and practices. As a key leader you will collaborate cross functionally with PMO, Product and business partners to ensure success of our analytics and insights vision.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  1. Lead a team of high performing front end and backend engineers to build a real time analytics product.
  2. Recruit, manage, mentor and lead a global team of software engineers.
  3. Lead efforts to optimize real time data streams and overall system performance and availability.
  4. Drive initiatives to lower overall costs associated with data products.
  5. Create, review and assist in team designing and implementing technical strategy to build new products and features.
  6. Manage cross team dependencies and work with tech leads on solutions.
  7. Set performance metrics and expectations, conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
  8. Identify skills and gaps and training needs within the team to create appropriate development plans.
  9. Form strong functional relationships with product and business stakeholders to deliver solutions to drive business value.
  10. Foster a diverse and inclusive work environment, ensuring equal opportunities for all team members.
  11. Promote and build a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, trust and autonomy.
  12. Partner with product and UX teams to gather and understand requirements, discuss approaches, design solutions based on the requirements and create design documents for implementation keeping in mind costs, capacity, shelf-life and choosing the right tools and technologies.
  13. Ensure best practices in data governance, security and compliance (GDPR, CCPA), managing data quality, lineage and security for data integration products.
  14. Oversee design, development and maintenance of scalable engineering infrastructure, ensuring scalability, performance and reliability.
  15. Establish and promote best practices, standards and documentation to ensure reliability and maintainability of data products.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (or TECHNICAL SKILLS/COMPETENCIES)

  1. Proven years of experience in engineering with strong emphasis on building complex real time streaming products.
  2. Proven years of management experience, including mentoring and team leadership.
  3. Strong experience using Java, Spring Boot and database technologies.
  4. Good understanding of front-end frameworks like React/Angular.
  5. Strong experience building real time data applications using streaming platforms such as Kafka, Apache Flink or AWS SQS is preferred.
  6. Understanding and knowledge on creating modern event driven architecture to generate real time insights.
  7. Understanding of basic authentication protocols OAUTH2, OpenID Connect, API Keys.
  8. Knowledge of software engineering best practices, version control systems (GitLab), CI/CD pipelines.
  9. Experience in working with cloud-based platforms (preferably AWS) and understanding of IAAC frameworks.
  10. Strong leadership and management skills, as well as leading and developing high performing teams.
  11. Must have deep understanding of engineering principles, strong managerial skills and ability to drive innovation and operational excellence.
  12. Extensive experience across multiple technologies, governance frameworks, data security and data platforms.
  13. Experience managing cross-functional teams in a geographically and culturally diverse environment.
  14. Experience and understanding of modern observability platform and standards.
  15. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or related field.
  16. Experience working in Agile development environments and using tools such as Jira and Confluence.
