Job description

Trail Ridge Power (TRP) works with national commercial and industrial real estate partners to create portfolio-wide energy transition solutions for their sustainability needs. We originate, design, develop, finance, own and operate renewable energy assets on a stand-alone basis but also in conjunction with energy efficiency technologies to help our partners reach their net-zero-carbon goals. These assets include solar generation, battery storage, fuel cells, building controls, and other cleantech offerings to provide on-premises or local generation solutions as well as a load control and curtailment. At Trail Ridge Power, the future of renewables is not just rooftop solar but looking at generation and consumption as inherently interconnected.

The Role: The Director of Renewable Energy Policy will report to the Chief Revenue Officer and will work collaboratively across the organization. This position requires a professional who has a deep understanding of renewable energy markets, including industry trade associations, climate policy, and regulatory frameworks.

This position is remote with some travel required. Qualified applicants in the Boulder, CO area are preferred. The company will consider remote applicants within the United States only.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise leadership, development, and project finance on potential upcoming changes in regulations that could provide opportunity or challenges for energy transition projects.
  • Prepare and routinely update summaries of national, key state, and (where appropriate) utility or local policy requirements as they pertain to renewable energy project development.
  • Prepare in-house white papers based on jurisdictional regulations.
  • Keep abreast of changes in incentive structures, including tax credits, RECs and rebates for renewable generation and energy efficiency.
  • Interact with a variety of trade associations and their various policy committees.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the development and finance teams to support project origination and development.

You Bring:
  • A bachelor's degree in public policy, sustainability, or similar field.
  • Master's degree in public policy or sustainability is preferred.
  • At least seven years of renewable energy policy research experience to support commercial projects. Direct experience in the development process is strongly preferred.
  • At least two years of sustainability support in a commercial setting, preferably in manufacturing, real estate, or finance.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory frameworks and decarbonization mandates in leading states such as California, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland and Illinois is required.
  • Prior interactions with the leading industry trade associations including SEIA, CCSA, CALSA, NYSEIA, ACT and others.
  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communications skills.

Benefits/Perks:
  • Competitive pay with bonus eligibility. The salary range and bonus for this position will vary depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and breadth of contribution to the organization.
  • Vacation/Sick Time, Holidays, Comprehensive Health Benefits, 401k.
