Job description

We have an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished and visionary Director of Public Health to join our team in Rotherham. This is a fantastic time to join Rotherham Council with its sights set on the future as we continue our plans to achieve the best outcomes for local people, recognising the importance of putting them at the heart of everything we do. That means involving residents in the things that matter to them and making sure we design our services based on input from those who use them.

We are seeking a talented individual to lead our pioneering efforts in adopting place-based approaches that prioritise community involvement and empowerment. Rotherham Council’s aim is to address health inequalities head-on and embed public health principles into every aspect of our work. This is especially important given the significant health inequalities many of our residents face and there is a clear focus on improving outcomes for our children, creating healthy environments, reducing poverty and ensuring good mental health and wellbeing.

The Director of Public Health role sits within the Adult Care Housing and Public Health Directorate, a statutory chief officer of the authority and the principal adviser on all health matters, including health improvement, health protection and healthcare. You will be responsible for delivering excellent public health services for Rotherham residents and will work closely across all the directorates in the council, maximising the opportunities of being a unitary authority.

For this role, there is a requirement for the successful candidate to be included in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview) or inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
