The Role:

As a member of the Extended Corporate leadership team and an experienced public health professional, you will have direct relationships with the Corporate Director of Housing, Care and Wellbeing and the Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove City Council.

You will:

  • Deliver effective leadership to drive improvements in the health and wellbeing of local residents, to reduce inequalities in health outcomes, to work in collaboration with UKHSA to protect local communities from threats to their health and be an influential leader across the Sussex Integrated Health and Care System.
  • Work with local organisations and communities to make the city a fairer and healthier place for everyone ensuring we deliver on our Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
  • Lead and develop a thriving and impactful Public Health team, including public health consultants, programme managers, commissioners, a health intelligence team and our Healthy Lifestyle Team.
  • Develop and sustain a culture of innovation and creativity underpinned by evaluation, where employees are engaged and have the desire to do things better, more efficiently, inclusively and effectively to improve performance.

To deliver this, we are looking for someone who:

  • Has a track record of influencing key stakeholders. You will be a real collaborator, able to spot opportunities and inspire commitment, be adept in delivering in a democratically led organisation and as comfortable in a senior leadership environment as in a public meeting.
  • Skilled in shaping ideas and thinking and providing strategic advice on all public health commissioning and service provision, to the council, health and care system and wider partners across the City.
  • Committed to meeting the needs of our diverse communities and is able to establish priorities for action to address the health inequalities in Brighton & Hove.
  • Understand the public sector duty and the inequality duty and their application to public health practice.
